The idiots in the above photo's you posted are nothing but low-life scum. That ESPECIALLY goes for those who carry those signs thanking God for dead soldiers. This same group was supposed to show up here in Corpus Christi to do their protest when a Marine Sergeant was going to be buried. The "Freedom Riders" showed up in large numbers (these are the good folks who ride their Motorcycles all over the Country so they can be a show of support, for the family in crisis) but needless to say, the freaks never arrived.

[[[OK, so why didn't you say that to begin with? You made it sound like the US Govt was selling guns to terrorists.]]]]

Oh Carl, where do I imply that in my post?

The guns in this case were exported illegally.

[[[OK, then that should have been mentioned as well!]]]

Your an educated guy Carl, since when did USA Noraid or in the case of one Florida gun shop owner ever supply IRA with guns in any way or fashion that could possibly be construed by anyone as legal?

The guns in this case were bought with the specific
and only intention of supporting terrrorism and its
    perpetrators.

These were not cases of individuals gifting gifts to for US citizens to use for sport, hobby or defence of homesteads in the US, they were bought with a political objective in mind and bought and provided against the wishes and laws of the US govt of the time too.

    [[[Thank you for clarifying that.]]]]

Again Carl, your a clever guy, why on earth would you think that US arms would find their way to the IRA for any other use? I needed to clarify nothing.

Terrorism and its supporters are terrorism and its supporters no matter the guise.

[[[All too true, I agree with you and....]]]]]

Good site Martin, there are many more however. In fact the FBI, made some good investigative arrests in those days, and its only thanks to the FBI and Reagans support against the gun runners that stopped Bessborook Heli pad from becoming a blood bath and unusable.

[[[And I am very glad to see someone actually give Reagan and the FBI, the proper credit that is due to them.]]]]

So Carl, if your govt knew it was illegal, your security services knew so, your intelligence services doing the same, I cannot possibly think any other way on your initial response, sorry mate, but Ill call a spade a spade here. Let it go, theres much worse I could say and point out here.

Not sure the local Black communities felt the same way but I see your point. In fact, there was a time when the ancestors of the IRA were seen in a similar light.

Or that you'd 'keep your hand on your wallet' around all Muslims? Indeed.

That said, I'd quite happily slam the entire IRA and KKK, both are sick organisations that caused misery for hundreds, though I agree that comparison is dubious as they are different organisations. I just brought it up as evidence that every society, however 'civilised' has it's fair share of nutters.

No, just 'keeping your hand on your wallet' around people, which sounds a lot like you assume they are going to wrong you because of their religion, which sounds a lot like prejudice based on creed. Then again there was the little shaving foam and mouthwash jibe, a dig at a part of someones religion and the suggestion that halitosis is a problem they have because they are Muslim? Not to mention the assumption that they were all of course unemployed. Sweeping generalisation again, more tar? I guess that's how I dare...

I wasn't, though I do have my doubts from time to time. My point was that for all our supposed western 'civilisation' (which seems fairly barbaric to me a lot of the time, be it in the US, UK or anywhere else) we still have our fair share of lunatics and idiots.

What do you know of the folks where I live? Or indeed of our 'situation?' Hell, as was pointed out earlier, many of the individuals at that protest were dealt with and punished according to the law. Ok, maybe they weren't forced to shave their beards, but then again punishing someone by taking something important to their religion seems pretty barbaric to me.

So anyhow, care to explain to me what 'our situation' is?

Exactly, every community has it's lowlifes and it's idiots. Damning a religion because of a few pics of idiots like the ones on this thread is much like damning the US based entirely on these pics, stupid, ignorant and wrong.

Well made point. We all have our share of low life scum. Unfortunately in my job as a journalist, they're the ones who make the news because they're the ones who usually stir things up. I can't write a news report that says "Everything's normal." Who would read that? This is a fact of life we all have to learn to deal with, accept, and always be prepared for. Especially when the mob mentality comes in.

But Falcon, yes I understand your point, but you could write a piece on why people say its NOT normal when in fact it pretty much is normal, and then maybe delve into the reasons why some people would have us believe its worse than it is and why they would do such a thing. Far be it from me to tell a journalist about biased newscoverage, you have a tough time I realise that, good news dont sell in the main, but if someone is telling me something is wrong and rest of media then pipe up oh yes your right, Id like to see where the message originates, we call a certain sort of journalist in govt circles over here, lobby journalists, off the record, no names no pack drill, that doesnt mean they should drop all objectivity and report what they are told whilst the informant laughs all the way to the department he comes from. Hence Iraq reporting. How many times did the Al Faw peninsular fall according to allies media hq in Oman was it? No one objected just ran the stories fed.
I do understand by the way, my son has just finished his first year in Broadcast journalism and political sciences. Dont know where the heck he gets it from, no one in my family ever rock the boat.

Sadly, what you say is true. And don't worry about offending me. I adhere to the principle of disagreeing with someone's belief but defending his right to say that belief. (Of course, the limit to that is how that belief is promoted.)
I once wrote a story about a rally I covered which detailed the demonstrators' attempt to force the police to violently react. They put women in their front. The women would then cross the line which the police have designated as a no rally point. The police will remind the women and tell them to pull back but are ignored. If a policeman so much as nudges one of the women to force them back to their side of the line, these women would make exaggerated movements, sometimes tear part of their clothing, and then cry out that they are being attacked. Some photographers eager for some action shots take pictures of this and that's what the public sees. My story about this never saw print.
I also had some TV colleagues of mine cry police brutality after police rounded them up after securing a hotel that coup plotters took over. They raised such a howl and even went on CNN to cry foul. What this misguided TV guys conveniently forgot was that they were not supposed to be in the building in the first place because SWAT teams were going to attack. I was among those who heeded the warning and withdrew from the building. Fortunately for these TV guys who chose to remain, the SWAT could distinguish the sheep from the wolves. These TV guys also forgot that it's standard procedure for SWAT teams to round up anyone found within the premises in order to identify who's who. One of the plotters might pretend to be a journalist and get away. Fortunately, we set the record straight about this.
There was also this TV crew who showed soldiers shooting down two men who were armed with machetes with a voice over that deplored the shooting, saying the soldiers shouldn't have killed the men because the "victims" didn't have rifles. What these TV guys didn't show was that the soldiers had already suffered four casualties when they tried to pacify these men. The TV guys had that footage but their news desk decided that the scene of soldiers shooting down these men was more dramatic footage. Besides, the complete clip would not fit the air time alloted for their segment.
I often get branded by some of these guys as the "resident rightist" when we get together for drinks. I don't mind for some of these guys (and gals) are just hot air and would not survive if they work in print. They can't say that to me because I DID work in TV too before I settled for print and even pinch hit for the BBC once in a while.
I better halt now before I get carried away. My saner colleagues and I prefer to work for the goal of setting the record straight.

    Excellent points FJ

Why is it we diss the History Channel and believe the newspaper/national news ??

I once saw a broadcast from Iraq I believe where the camera rolled too soon. It showed people standing around with signs down, pointing different directions....basically looked like they were on a "coffee break".

Then all of a sudden (like they heard the word Action), they burst into screaming, chanting, sign-waving, flag-burning fanatics. I always wondered where those (who get so much frame-time) get all their energy. I mean to be doing this all day long must be exhausting to say the least.

Hollywood. I've seen a movie where a little kid was "supposedly" talking to, and communicating with a horse. He said to the horse to go tell grandpa (or something). The rear of the horse was not visible in the screen. All of a sudden the horse took off like someone hit it in the ass with a shovel. Which is probably what happened.

How do you think they get Rodeo (Horses & Bulls) to buck and kick and generally Spaz-Out ?

    I see little difference.

Find it hard to disagree, we have to remember that protesters have got media savvy over the years, the police in any democratic society have a fine line to play policing protests, but its their own fault for getting away with some of the stuff they did in the past. Police in any country are in fact human and have same errr to get angry when pushed, some just handle it better, and training counts.
We live in a media world and both sides of any protest action act accordingly.

Whooollll far too much quoting going on around here. You certainly dont need to requote anything, Carl you seem to have missed in the post which I started in this thread on IRA Guns, for all to see, explicit in its wordage in brackets the word NORAID. You surely dont want me to point that out, its there, up front and prominent. Before your later reply on who did what with guns. There is no allegation from my post that the US state were involved in any way I challenge you to find that in my posts on this thread, if anything my posts show the US govt and law enforcement were assisting under your own laws in stopping it. Dont make out I said anything else, and please dont insult me or imply I accuse the US, it is yourself who is incorrect, sorry and all that, if you choose to try and make out that I am american bashing well...its quite a good exit strategy, take it by all means.
Carl, this is not personal, put your spade away, when digging holes they get bigger and bigger. I also dont appreciate your post in another thread implying why you post some of your posts, protecting America from certain American bashers, if this is in relation to this thread then it is indeed ingenuous on your part.

Carl, can you use a different quoting method, your latest post in this thread is very confused, hard to tell who's saying what.

Fair enough, well, I take it you are going to be having the patriot act repealed at some point then?

Haha, so you are a. assuming this chap was Muslim because he was 'dark skinned' and be using this incident with a single potential pickpocket (clearly not a mugger or anything much more serious otherwise he wouldn't have kept running off) to justify 'keeping your hand on your wallet' around any Muslims you meet. Again, prejudice based on race.

    Agreed totally.

Carl, I used to live in possibly the most multicultural city in the world, certainly in Britain. I grew up in an area that was predominantly 'non-white' and to a large extent Muslim. I have Muslim friends, people I grew up around and do you want me to let you into a little secret? There is no conspiracy, they are not out to get you and they are not going to mug you, though one or two might wind up helping you out if you fall ill over here (my GP is a Muslim). Maybe the world works differently in your little corner of Texas but it looks to me a lot like paranoia (not that your story above wasn't clearly a disturbing experience, had similar things happen to me, remind me to tell you about the Afghan cab driver who I wound up with when travelling in uniform).

You descriminate against people based on their creed, you have already said as much.

Come on Carl, now THAT is out of line. You can accuse me of lacking guts all you like but the truth is only one of us is currently serving in his nations armed forces (albeit TA) and only one of us is likely to be on tour this time next year. I have to say, I'm surprised at you.

The wearing of a beard being a sign of devotion in the Muslim religion, hence the whole 'shave' issue being something of a dig. If not then I'll just assume it was just an ignorant comment made due to lack of knowledge.

Sorry, maybe I missed something in the photo that suggested they had bad breath.

Sorry, you said if they all shaved and used mouthwash they would be able to get a job, suggesting you don't believe they have jobs ergo are unemployed. I haven't assumed anything, just read your words.

Phrasing a sentence as Yoda would doesn't make it any more true.

Hi Urgh, that's basically what I said with your above words-and nothing personal meant ;-)) I can't get the hand of quoting multiple times like others can do-so I do it the only way I know how to do it. ;-)) Sorry if it looks like a Chinese Fire Drill.

Hi Miguel, i'll see if I can figure something else out when replyiny. Maybe at the beginning and ending of all my quoting-i'll put somekind of smiley face ;-)) such as:

    gobbeldygook

Other than doing that, I can't seem to do that multi-quote thing. ;-)) I guess that's aother sign of being an old fart?
