She had balls. Nice to see a woman wield power. Shows our opposites we are free....Have you heard Saudi Arabia is now allowing women to ride bikes?.Only for pleasure, if accompanied by a male relative.
Although I do not identify with either Ronald Reagan's views or Margaret Thatcher's views I am convinced that they were souls created by God and both suffered a horrible illness for a long time before their death. He was my president chosen by our process that I have been citizen enough to accept and be able to SAY that! Perhaps someday you may witness someone deteriorating slowly and find how difficult it is to accept that to continue their care. I say, may they rest in peace and may their families be consoled that their suffering has ended, and they are now in God's hands who is far more capable of rendering a sound judgement about their lives than I am, so thankful I do not have such a burden to carry, rather, I am thankful for their efforts as they saw best to lead their countries, and we will all answer for where we are short in God's view. Likely we will all be found short in being able to see into another's point of view. The question is rather simple I think.........do you support liberty and freedom?...........or do you support only liberty and freedom if it goes my(your) way???!!!! To be a true citizen of the country, you have to support and be loyal to the process!
Not when the process is flawed...Not one not one recent incumbent of the UK prime ministeral role has had anything like a majority of support at the voting booth. The process is flawed..But it is all we have. But if they do not ever have a maority of people behnid them then this is what you will always find on their demise...And let no one forget who stabbed Maggie in the back..it certainly was not the public and was not the opposition. It was her own cabinet and party. Edit, I think the nearest I've seen to this thread was when Ted Kennedy died in states....Might be worth some doing a search of that old thread to see how our American cousins handled that one. Edit...Actually that thread is errrr....a little humerous...I even commented...And ooops...My second post there was rather far seeing if I say so myself... Looking at that thread and this and another started on here on same person...I'd say Slips number 19 post on there is one we should all note...The same standard flies here..but left not right. http://www.ww2f.com/topic/24224-edward-kennedy-dies-of-brain-cancer-at-age-77/?hl=%2Bkennedy+%2Bdies
Rest in Peace, Baroness Thatcher. This is an interesting take. Mikhail Gorbachev on Margaret Thatcher, Source: The Guardian President of the USSR 1985-1991 "Others may have known her better than I and will have a lot to tell about her life and work, but my memories may be no less valuable, for they go back to the time of our co-operation at a pivotal moment in the history of Europe and of the world. We had stayed in touch, exchanging letters from time to time. I have read books about her and I'm familiar with her articles and memoirs. I read her book Statecraft. Though there are statements and judgments with which I do not share, I agree with the high marks the book got from many political leaders, scholars and journalists for its author as a political writer and historian. I met Margaret Thatcher in late 1984 when I visited Great Britain at the head of a Soviet parliamentary delegation. We arrived in London on a Sunday, warmly welcomed by members of the British parliament. The following day, I, Alexander Yakovlev and Leonid Zamyatin were invited to Chequers. After the welcome and introductions, for Margaret was with several ministers of her government, we were invited to lunch. The conversation that began was without precedent. It was open and friendly. Nevertheless, our ideological differences immediately became apparent. Sometimes jokingly, and sometimes more seriously, unflattering remarks were made about capitalism and communism. It was clear even then that this was a woman of character. At some point, our conversation became so tense that some of those present thought that it would have no continuation. And then I said to Margaret that I had no instructions from the Politburo to persuade her to join the Communist party of the Soviet Union. She broke into laughter, and I hastened to add that we respected her views and I was hoping that she would treat my views the same way."
There lies a similary too...Gorbachev...The world loved him..his own country had and still have other ideas on that one. Is he still alive? She did treat his views the same way...the famous talk about Gorvachev to Reagan...I like Mr.Gorbachev...we can do business together.
As our political processes are all man made creations......are they not all flawed in some way.........perhaps one can argue towards some political creation as a "utopian concept", however all that I have encountered had some flaw upon close examination so I suppose you can explain a way for not supporting anything created by man because it is "flawed". If it was of perfection.....I think it would be in the next world perhaps but not on this earth. Yes we would always be more likely to say....."It is not flawed" because "it brought my choice in leadership to power". Also are we not free to lobby and promote the changes to the system we may have vision to improve this process....isn't that a part of our citizenship responsibility, if we are living in a country of some liberty?
So who in the states has more political influence in the lobbyist stakes Victor...the guy in Detroit suburbs or the guy in DC resteraunt with the nice suit...A nation like my own..of equals with equal lobbying...I think your utopia is found wanting more than my utopia.
Actually I have no utopia....and so rural as to be beyond the suburbs....so if you wish you can view me as too rural to be where you see yourself at.....and perhaps I am found wanting.....have never denied that so be well and happy friend!
Oh yes Urgh. The American Cousins are wanting. I often wonder how close we are to the end of utopia - how close we are to the precipice of say: Rome in the time of Nero or in the twilight of so many other civilizations. Now that the flower children have assimilated into power they/we find that governing is not so easy as it seemed in 1967 and that - "What we (some of us only for there are so many great parents about that still make sure their children retain the core values of the past and class) will leave our children and grandchildren may be somewhat lacking in substance". "Hey man, whats that sound? Everyone knows whats goin' down." And then that thought passes and I turn on Game of Thrones on the dvr. And I wonder what my great grandfather would have done and surmise that he would have gone to the garage and fashioned another fine rifle stock from some old hickory. "And the one's that Mother gives you, don't do anything at all." The Jefferson Airplane Sorry for that tangent. Anyway good night all.
Peter Dinklage is very good in Game. After the blasting he got from King Father I believe he will wise up and rise to the challenge. He must watch Baelfish though (a very good Dublin actor, excellent in "The Wire" and many others). Despot Joffrey seems very over his Mum and she best watch out or be sent off to exile......or Worse. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0340377/ This one is pretty good too. Really liked him in this movie and Patricia Clarkson is always grand. Sorry to digress again! Thanks for the likes, gentlemen. And CAC, it is my favorite song, right there with "Lather" and "Somebody to Love".
"Although I do not identify with either Ronald Reagan's views or Margaret Thatcher's views I am convinced that they were souls created by God and both suffered a horrible illness for a long time before their death." Thinking I've interpreted VG incorrectly... Surely your not saying their illness was a judgement from God? ...Look at all the truly evil people who have lived long, prosperous lives : bankers, pedophile clergy, crooked cops, Monsanto- [ look at what they have done/threaten to do to our farmers, recently banned in Peru- 9th country ], etc... RR and MG will have a place in heaven for doing what others were too cowardly to do. ..Balls.. Or is it they served their Hell on earth, and now move on to be angels, through psychic ethers- helping us evolve... Conversely, look at all the suffering of innocents. Where is God for them?..Maybe they practice the wrong religion?- Each religion would say that..Would like to think there is a Karma aspect. You can pay now, or you can pay more later...Peace, baby...Stump calling. Was a high school kid at the time. Had no worries. Have since heard how tough things were under her appointment. Tough for a Canadian kid so far removed to have a valid opinion on RR or MT. But things seemed to have worked out, during their terms. ..Can't keep all the people happy all the time. And here we are. 2013. Maybe someone has a better scenario posted in the 'what if' section.
