    Martin,

Found this Q on another board:

Opinions wanted on: "Dambuster, a life of Guy Gibson VC"...
    Mon Apr 7 10:30:36 2003
    62.59.8.179

....by Susan Ottaway. Found it in a second hand bookshop for almost nothing. So I could not leave it there. Is it any good or is it just a good spacefiller on my shelf?

    regards

    Ivo

Thanks, Stevin, and I've posted a response.

Susan Ottaway's book is OK, and good about Gibson's childhood and family - but it has been rather overshadowed by Richard Morris' biography which, as I've said before, is a quite superb book.

Thank you, Martin. You're a rteal gentleman.

This board has been quite helpfull to me in the past with some of my Luftwaffe queries. I am sure Erich will agree that it is one of the best on the Luftwaffe...

Thanks guys...I really thought I needed a couple before I joined the Millenium club... :D Was surprised to find I had crossed over 1000-line! [IMG]

Must admit...it feels different...Like I have arrived or something...Feel like I have to start posting sensible posts that are actually helpfull in a WW2 kinda sense... [IMG]

Oh, Martin, the wife doesn't know! Shhhhhh! And if I didn't care about her wrath, I would have had 1000+ posts a long time ago! :D :D

could be due to the fact that many here as well as other forums post a question, myabe two and then wait for a reply before they permantely log out. this is a case for www.armyairforces.com
forums. I love these guys here as it is right up my alley but I've checked enough of the profiles and many don't even really log on, yet even join, so how they get on is beyond me to post. Well anyway I wholeheartedly believe that many will just log on and ask to retrieve information without a thank you and move on elsewhere. Sad as you said as we all can benefit from one another's postings......most of the time ;)

    Thanks Kai....Like I said...it feels quite special... :D

Erich, I used to visit the armyairforces site a lot. Haven't recently I must admit. As far as I could tell they deal a lot with family looking for information on a (Grand)father vet. I used te be on their e-mailring and for some reasons that seemed to work better for me. But you never reach everybody then....I'll go back there, have a look...Scott Burris is doing a wonderful job for sure with that site and the forums there...The site has been the starting point for many of my searches...He is a strict moderator though!

OK, I just checked the site and obviously I haven't been their for a long time; last time I visited they had the forums divided up by Bomb Group!

Stevin, I would suggest taking your time through the site since it has undergone some major changes. From the many postings I have done I included in my profile that any vet or family member could ask me about German operations in relationship to their family/vets career. About 15 folks have responded to me privately with some very interesting findings you just don't seem to find in the published texts. Just yesterday I have been helping a waist gunner of the 487th whose B-17 was nailed by one of I./JG 7's Me 262's. He wants to research further the German KU reports on their downing and any of the German pilots of the jets that attacked. Alot of fun as this 80 year old chap is excited like a little kid ! It's great to help deserving folks......

I know from experience that that is, as you say, really rewarding stuff to do.

Did I ever sent you the stuff from Cpl. Griego, tail gunner of a 100BG B17 that was shot down by Me262's on March 18, 1945?

Got your private. Thanks for that. Will respond soon.

And YES! i will time to get myself up to date with armyairforces!
