I'm of the age of the silver screen, and film stars to me are of that time, and mould.sure there are good actors today, but the cinema was in a golden age in the 40s.50s,and 60s,and actors today in no way have the persona of there predecessors I'm sorry to say, hope that explains somewhat,ray..

Hi Ray, Dusty's Trail lasted only a few months-not sure of exact number of episodes? It had "Gilligan" as "Dusty" who helped in running a Stagcoach Company. I never saw any episodes of it but I heard that it was an enjoyable series.

Dobie Gillis was one of those TV series geard for Teens, Collage Age and even for Adults. George Gobel played Dobies Father who also ran a Grocery Store in which Dobie worked in. Maynard G. Krebs (Bob Denver) was the "Clown" of the TV series. Also, I think he worked part time at Gillis's Store and was always accused of helping himself to Soda Pops and candy and such. It was a very well-done comedy series. I don't know how long it lasted? maybe 2-3 or more seasons? I do remember the earliest episodes were the best IMO. Also, something that you saw a lot in the series-was that famous statue of a nuce man sitting and leaning over resting his chin on one of his fists. The statue is called: The Thinker. This is one of the places where Dobie would go to to "gather his thoughts" and do some heavy cogitating on life.

Though I have heard of Jungle Jim, i've never seen any. I THINK Johnny Weismuller was Jungle Jim?? I knowhe was in at least some of the J.J movies. Weismuller-for those who don't recognize his name-was an Olympic Swimmer who made it into Hollywood and became one of the best Tarzans--ever.

Range Rider, Cisco Kid, Hopalong Cassidy, Roy Rogers, Rin Tin Tin, Rawhide, Wagon Trains, Shenandoah, Gunsmoke, Gun Law, Wyatt Earp, Have Gun Will Travel, Maverick, Shotgun Slade, Texas Rangers, The Rifleman, Branded, Hondo, Zorro, Daniel Boone, Iron Horse, Buffalo Bill Jr, Cannonball, The Rebel, Annie Oakley, Mule Train, Wells Farge, Death Valley Days, The Travels of Jamie McFeeters, are most of my favorites too. Ahh the fond memories. When I was younger, I even somewhat liked: F. Troop.

As for actors whose names were used in movies, there were quite a few but in all or most cases-as with John Wayne ;-)) their character name just happened to be the same first name as the actor who played said characters. Sometime ago, I did a look see at all of Dukes movies where his characters name was John-such as Sgt John M. Stryker in Sands of Iwo Jima, Sheriff John T. Chance in: Rio Bravo--etc. Anyway, I remember that he used John in at least 20+++ movies. A lot of his earlier movies had John as his characters name. The Shootist has him as John Bernard Books. ;-))

I forgot to mention that though when it first aired-I absolutely hated: Little House on the Prarie, but since im a fan of Michael Landon and on and Victor French, i've come to actually like that series now. There are dozens of other Western Series most very short-lived.

Paradise was another series that I liked when it was on, and there was another that had 4-5 guys who were Outlaws in the Wild West but were somehow transported into the future-to fight crime. I don't remember the name of that all too short-lived series, but I loved every episode of it.

Another all to short-lived but most excellent Western Series-was: The Young Rebels. This one is set in "occupied" American Colonies set just before and during the Revolutionary War. The only actors whose name I remembered from that well made seies is Louis Gossett Jr.-who travelled with two white friends of his-and he posed as their slave even though they were all great friends. They went around constantly embarassing the British Commanders.

I have to keep editing this post because I keep thinking of more great Western Series. This newest one was based on the excellent Robert Young, Spencer Tracy and Walter Brennan movie about Major Robert Rogers and his Rangers called: Northwest Passage. I've seen some of the TV series long ago and it was a very well done show.

More great series include: Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Grizzley Adams, Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, Judge Roy Bean-and I finally cannot think of anymore series names.

I enjoyed this film, it's reasonably paced and the story keeps you focused throughout, a lot of the time you get bored with the plot and end up spodding on detail or denouncing the lack of budget, neither happened for me with this plus theres a couple of scenes which really had the wow factor and without the usual computer graphics effects gone mad.

In the UK this is widely available on DVD for around a tenner.

Hi Ray, yup those were the days of great programming. I haven't watched much series TV snce the early 90's. Y+The last time I spent a few hrs in front of the boobtube-was when shows like Magnum P.I. etc etc etc were still on. NOw all I watch are mostly the older shows with the exception for The King of Queens, Two and a half Men, The Simpsons, and stuff like that. I recently discovered a show that I THINK is called: Missing??? not sure of it exact title? ANyway, I saw my first episode of it about 2 weeks ago and actually liked it.

Hey Ray, on my last trip to Wally World (aka) wal-mart, I picked up a deluxe version of: The Bridge Over the River Kwai-for appx $14.00. I haven't watched it yet but am saving it for weekend viewing. Anyway, I knew the movie had long ago already been released on DvD, but so fat Wally Worlds price seems to be the cheapest i've found yet.
