That day is not very far away...a few steps further and almost anything will be able to be robotized or autonomous. I think there will always be a human element to most things though...if only for legal reasons. Non war/civilian applications are just as exciting...imagine fighting fires with a bot that can't be damaged by fire heat, hitting the heart of a fire or rescuing people from burning houses or tall buildings...armed bots used for building clearance...security (sentry drones). Teachers in remote locations. The sky is the limit...As you may be aware, Australia is currently building and testing it's first drone fighter aircraft...that's about 1 step away from what we see in Sci Fi...I give it 10 or more likely 20 years for this tech to be begin it's maturity period...this will see this tech everywhere. Interesting times...
I read a story "a few years back" about Armageddon. The government and military got wind of the coming battle and insisted on building a huge robot army to help the angels fight the forces of Hell. After a wild battle and near thing the forces of good triumphed. The bugles of Heaven sounded and angels descended to the battlefield and picked up all the fallen robots and transported them bodily to heaven. The humans were left standing on the sidelines. I thought this was only fair.
"Naval Mechanical Fire-Control Compters. Amazing film from 1953 showing how they work." IIRC the ship's band were employed in this mission.
Gestapo and SA are a story themselves, but I am surprised By the co-operation that took place in occupied countries. The locals and National wide people told about the Jews and resistance to Germans.
If during operation Valkyrie the Wehrmacht could take SS men prisoner in all the big cities as I have understood, Stauffenberg could have had his plan true but several officers did not want to go ahead with the plan and left Stauffenberg et co to be executed.
