Hmmm, maybe you got a point there, BUT: AFV= Armoured Fighting Vehicle IFV= Infantry Fighting vehicle Than you got: APC= Armored personel Carrier AIFV= Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle And imo the M113 isn't really a FIGHTING vehicle, its more like a battle-taxi APC. I think in terms of mobility, firepower, protection and functionality it is of a lower level than the IFV's, you can't compare them with eachother. (especially because of its armor, we currently have the YPR-765, this is like an upgraded M113 with add-on frontal, side and top armor and the infantry-compartment is completely changed + it got a 25mm cannon, and still it can't compete with an IFV like the Bradley or BMP-3, you can shoot trought the add-on armor with a .50, so its nothing...)
Surely TOW-FIST, M163, ADATS, M113 FSV (Australia) qualify it as a fighting vehicle? All depends on threat level. Oli
cav tracks in nam the cav in nam used M-113s armed with 1 .50 M2 and 2 M-60s. all with shields and got into one heck of a lot of fights. don't try to tell a cav trooper his M113 wasn't a fighting track. besides MTB MIFV APC or any other name you care to call then they all are AFVs. if they get shot at and shoot back and have armor they quilify even perhaps a heavy hummer.
