I am really amazed whe I see all these excellent finds. I didn't even know orange Juice powder existed in 1944/45. The fork is nice too. It was taken at a Hotel , note sure but it reads ROHR or something similar.

You'd be amazed if you knew how many of those packeges we've found, also for coffee etc.
They are spread through out the Forest.
By the way the name on the fork is hotel Flohr.
In total i found 4 forks in the pit, all civil!

Here some pictures and finds from a search this year.
The damage on the barn is from the fighting in the Hurtgen Forest, this barn is at the edge of the forest and so a good parkingspot.

And again some from the pit, like the 2 forks:

Still prints from the casings visible, it was empty when i found it:

Looks to me like what's left of a whistle.

Very nice finds, I am actually going back to Germany on August 26th for 3 weeks. I plan on doing some magnet fishing in some Panzergrabens and some metal detecting on some sites and foxholes that I have discovered in my past travels... on the French Border near Pirmasens to visit my wifes family. Any advice?

I find this to be so interesting. One had to be most fortunate to be able to search for and find these historical items.

Wow! What a wonderful thread to resurrect.

I wonder what Ed is up to these days?

I've been to the Hürtgen forest a few times since last posting in this thread. My advice to anyone thinking of metal detecting in the area is to be very careful as it is both illegal and dangerous.
