What you say is so true Patches. It is the shoppers who make Walmart what it is. As Luketdrifter has pointed out, the business practice is what America practices today. It is not about quality or even the bottom line, it is the survival of the fittest. Walmart could charge more but would sell less as reflected in his example. Ultimately, it is up to the shopper. Some things I do get from Walmart. Most others I get elsewhere. I pay more but I insist on a higher level of quality and am willing to pay for it because I know I will get my $$$ worth. As long as the American consumer wants cheap prices, the Mom and Pop shops cannot compete.
I'd be the first in line to shop esewhere other than walmart-IF those choices were available? However, with many things I need-I have no choice but to shop at wally-world. Case in point was items I needed to get last night. I spent $90 there for certain yard products and such-that are not carried elsewhere-or not in a store that is reasonably distant from my house.
That is another thing. When I lived in Rowlett (Dallas) there were Walmarts within 5 miles distance in three directions which means they were withing 10 miles of each other. That is a lot of Walmarts in such an area.
Hi Ike, it's the same here in Houstontownsilleburgdorfsky. There are at least 3 WWs that I know of that are within 3 miles of my house. Good thing is that they have lots of competition n that area as well-sch as at least 2 HEBs, 2 Krogers, 2 Randalls and some independant stores i've never heard of before or been in.
I've just been reading through the posts in this thread ... I can't comment on Wally-Wotsit-Mart 'cause we don't have them in the UK, we have the likes of Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys etc. similar thing on a smaller scale. Anyway, what I would like to know is .... Mussolini, did they sort your battery out or what? It's been over a month now.
this is all the walmarts within distance to charlotte, just flooded with them id hate to see some other maps how they compare, it seems like starbucks in the 90s
Hi Jason-I think it is? ;-D. Im not a fan of either Charlie Sheen or Jon Cryer-but I have to admit-this show does make me laugh a bit ;-)) I alos like the fact that many "Familiar Faces" appear on the show from time-to-time--such as Robert Wagner as well as Martin Sheen.
Carl, I had missed your post about the 2 and a half men DVDs (we love that show BTW) but yeah that happens A LOT! I deal with that crap every day. Some of it is even my fault! Yikes. Personally, my store, has no illegal immigrants. In fact, we're AA all the way. I don't mind that many people complain or don't like Wal-Mart...because just like with your career went....enough people frequented to keep us in business!! All I care about is, doing my job to the best of my ability (which is pretty damned good if I do say so myself) and taking care of my family. The day that one of those isn't possible, is the day I walk away.
Hi Luke--and speaking of that show-they just had a two hr 4-episode mini-marathon of it playd locally. I was most of the time ;-)) I'd love to visit the store you work in-just for a bit of fresher air and a change of pace. The store down here are abysmal. Also, you can't trust drinking water from the water fountains here. I was going to once-saw a wad of gum stuck where the water comes out-reported it to a manager who said the fountain would be promptly clean-and three months later-that wad of gum is still stuck there partly blocking the stream of water. What I found that was really sickening-was when I watched person after person go drink from that fountain-not carinng that someone stuck that gum there :yuk: Needless to say-everytime I go shopping there-I go snag a 20 oz bottle of Dasani Water and drink that instead ;-)) Luke, one thing I can say-is that you one of the few working for that company that actually cares about what they have to do to do their job correctly. I know a few like that at two of the three Wms I frequented in the Corpus CHristi area. Ill say one thing though-those people who work at the Pharmacy are all-right in my book as well as some of the employees. The bad thing especially here in Houston-is that they just don't hire enough people who should be able to speak and understand English. Takecare and best regards--C.
Finally, someone has the balls to say it. Couldn't agree more. The only thing I buy from them are my blank DVDs and CDs...
No Jason ... Still just Asda here. I know Wall Mart bought them out a while ago, but it hasn't changed it's name in Liverpool.
