I may be wrong but that looks like a JSU 122 on Stalin chassis NOT a SU 122 that was a short 122mm howitzer on T-34 chassis.
Tos you are correct the SU 122 was indeed on the T34 chassis equipped with the 122mm howitzer, The JSU 122 was on the KV chassis equiped with the 122 anti tank gun
Nitpicker strikes again!!! this is not very easy, never seen a pic of it until today though I knew it existed. View attachment 12399
It is the "smaller brother" of a slightly better known tank but much earlier than a Matilda. Think closer to home.
Most sources state a "high velocity 37mm gun" ..... AFAIK likely to be a very close relative of the Pak 36.
It has so many characteristics of tanks from the thirties but is prob a copy by another country, the airial is intrieging, the superstructure looks the wrong way around ( mid engine), the turrets mantlet is a serious shell trap and finally the periscopes on the roof are so familiar this is a struggle. But that is what it is all about
Leichte Traktor (VK 31) TOS, I can recommend to you book Tanks of the world 1915-1945, by Peter Chamberlain and Chris Ellis. Pretty old, but still very good. Tanks of The World 1915-1945 in AvaxHome

I agree vathra it is a little old TOS my friend. Peter Chamberlain and Chris Ellis books are excelent almost as good as George Forty ones, And it is indeed the the VK31 why didn't I get that one
The VK31/Leichte Traktor is confirmed, a bit surprised nobody got the reference to Rheinmetall that built both the tank and the gun. Just picked up a six volumes large format 230+ pages x volume "history of tanks" (Leichte Traktor comes from it) at a used books stand so will have to digest that before thinking of another "tank" buy though I centainly would have picked any Ellis & Chamberlain book had it been available, there were also a Flottes de Combat and 3 copies of the Almanacco Navale from the sixties (IMO the Almanacco has much better quality pictures and drawings than Jane's besides a more manageable format) don't think I will be able to resist.
