It continues: "I know you look at me and you see some nothing bum, who works for you for 20$ a week, and doesn't seem to amount to much. I know that. But I think I can be better than that, sir. And dumb and stupid as this may sound to you... What I can never be, not ever... is Japanese."
Ermm...it sounds like it might be a quote from a war film about American Japanese soldiers (i.e. Japanese who emigrated to the USA) fighting for the US? (I have a vague recollection of such a film but i'd need to do some research to put a name to it).
No. Another passage... "Enemy alien? I can't believe ths s**t! What about the Germans and Italians? Is Joe DiMaggio an enemy alien for Chrissakes?"
I have it on in my bookshelf. Directed by Alan Parker after he did "Mississippi Burning". About the internment of Japanese American citizens. The second line is said by a young Japanese man (18, I think) who goes out to enlist after Pearl Harbor. I guess this was before they formed the 442nd. Is it too obscure?
"Get some bodies in here. In a week I want to be two weeks ahead" "I don't think we have accommodations for extra men, sir" "What would they need with accomodations? Do you think they're gonna sleep?"
Certainly. Another quote from same movie: "You oughta stop playing God because you're not good at it and the position is taken!"
