What the.... Are we talking one of the Modified ones? You said right class earlier so I figuered you where talking about the earlier Flowers.
I never thought I would learn that much about English flowers, especially not pink-purple ones.. The next one has nothing to do with flowers but there is a connection somehow to the previous one.
Very good. Surprise one of 10 British Flowers transfered to the USN. You can tell it a British Flower and not a US built one by the intakes around the stack and the gun forward not being on a raised platform. Giveaways are the 4" US gun forward, the 3"/50 aft replacing the 2pdr vickers gun, the tripod main mast with SO radar that replaces the British "lantern" radar housing and mast forward of the bridge (still with crow's nest). Anyway to start on the new picture. Likely postwar 46 to 48. Appears to be either a U class or more likely Z or C class of the 12th and 13th emergancy flotillas with 4.5" guns. The Hazemeyer amidships and two or three bofors singles right behind the stack are fairly common. I'll have to work on the mast details to find the individual ship.
The big 6 final pennant number may help as well, I believe it's presence make the photo definetly post war. I did recognize the 4.5 mounts but missed the Hazemeyer, kudos to you.
You are closing in on target, Chief. Here's another picture, starboard side view this time. The pictures are taken from the KNM Oslo, and they show her sister. My father served onboard the KNM Oslo during the fifties, after being a liason officer during the initial years of the Tirpitz scrapping. A gruesome task, he said.
Congratulations! KNM Stavanger/ex HMS Crystal (R38). The Old Chief ran out of steam the last mile, but you made it: HMS CRYSTAL Over to you!
No, I just didn't get back here quick enough. There were four C Class transfered to the Norwegian navy: Bergen ex Cromwell Oslo ex-Crown Stravanger ex-Crystal and Trondheim ex-Croziers. I didn't get a chance to check the pennant number so I didn't post up right away.
Well, good work on an unkown vessel Chief! I will grant you a salute, which will increase your already heavy burden, for that! RAM
BTW, here's a family picture from way back in 1959. My father, me (to the right), my brother and the KNM Oslo/ex HMS Crown in the background in Trondheim. I can't remember the occasion, but according to our clothes it seems to be late fall before the snow starts to fall.
