It does indeed- "Experts have urged caution over rumours that a Nazi gold train has been found in Poland, amid fears that it could be a hoax. German Andreas Richter and Pole Piotr Koper claim to have underground radar shots of the train, which was said to have been buried near the town of Walbrzych as the Red Army moved in in 1945. But Tomasz Herbich, an archaeologist from the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, said: ‘In no way does this alleged radar shot show what is in these cavities underground.’ 'All information is based on a communication of a few pages and an illegible map. It is impossible to claim that such a find is actually in the specified location.' Poland’s deputy culture minister also conceded there is so far no 'verifiable' information about the load on the train. Meanwhile, the lower Silesian Historical Society said: 'Our experience of the excavation and the archival materials in our possession clearly point out that the information about the discovery of the armoured train does not marry up with the facts we know." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3224565/Experts-say-Nazi-gold-train-claims-probably-hoax.html#ixzz3l42RMrXQ
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059825/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_47 A great film and a great character, Labiche. 1964, The Train directed by John Frankenheimer.
So, is that verification that a train is actually in the tunnel? It hardly matters what's in the train, it will still be a historical time capsule.
yes, great film which I've seen again recently........for some reason, I remember watching the scene, when I was very young, where they paint the train's roofs white..but that was the only scene I remembered.!!?.....great train scenes, and rugged, raw, black and white scenes of the towns/etc
They're now claiming there might be THREE trains in the tunnel "It appears that there could be three trains within the tunnels. It is starting to emerge that this is a major underground complex that covers 500 acres. It could have been built to protect Hitler and his staff. Tunnels, corridors and a multi-level complex near Wałbrzych. What could be inside? Christopher Szpakowski, who after decades of searching for the complex Riese says in short: EVERYTHIING." https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world-war-ii/update-three-yes-three-nazi-gold-trains-suspected-in-to-be-found-in-the-tunnels.html
If it was a VIP train terminus there may be some valuables for the pleasure of those passengers. It would be unlikely that such trains would be used to haul loot, simple box cars would be more efficient.
The Polish Government said they expected it to be heavily booby trapped. So I expect it will be quite some time before we hear much.
The story about three trains sounds, ummm, speculative, but the area was a huge underground complex. That part is real history and was discussed very early on. It's an old coal mining district and they expanded the played out tunnels for several purposes. Some was storage and some were various manufacturing complexes. In some of the articles about the area they talk to locals who played in and explored many of those complexes years ago. Over the years they've sealed most of them off just for safety reasons, but they are real enough.
Back to some "facts": workers are currently clearing vegitation from the site in preparation for a dig. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/world/article/Forest-workers-clear-site-of-alleged-hidden-Nazi-6505603.php#photo-8634283
Anyone else notice they're "clearing" a nice straight line right along the power line and running the brush through the 'chipper/shredder'?
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/no-traces-alleged-nazi-treasure-train-found-site-article-1.2466419 experts say no train http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/dec/15/there-is-no-nazi-gold-train-polish-scientists-say can't wait for the next Jimmy Hoffa ''find''
Well well well... Some people just can't take "there is no train" for an answer. Digging will reportedly "commence within days": https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/nazi-gold-train-update-digging-begin-month.html
This is one of those stories that will never end. If there is a train, it's liable to be filled with something more mundane than gold. If there is no train then it's because they dug 20 meters, south, north, east, west of the correct position. They'll just need another million bucks to try again. A lot of the follow-up stories I'm seeing have now introduced the "Amber Room" from Leningrad. Unfortunately, that mystery was solved long ago - the Amber Room was burned by drunken Soviet soldiers in a warehouse in Prussia. Bringing that up is clearly an attempt to generate publicity and money. I suspect a fortune will be made here, by the two guys directing the excavation and collecting all the donor money.
