This topic is now in violation with an UN resolution which bans critisism of islam. It is hurtful to muslims.

Assuming the story is true. I haven't been able to find any verification of the story.

You guys play that silly shiite, too?

I'm gonna have to dig up probably the best April Fool's joke I've heard of. One of my bestest buddies pulled it. On me. The sunofabeach!

I thought it was an April Fool's Day hoax myself when I saw it, but it would have been a terrible choice for a hoax and the story was published the day after. I haven't found anything anywere else either, which is wierd, but it looks genuine. And the worst part of this is that I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

It's a religious 'news' website, which makes an article from them on religious matters - especially one with no sources - highly uncredible.

It is true (sorry I couldn't find an English newspaper).

The UN has made a resolution banning all religious blasphemy, but only islam is mentioned in the resolution. It is, islam or not, in any case a serious step back for freedom of expression and not in my opinion what the UN was meant for.

This is all I could find in English related to the UN resolution.

No, this is bullshit taken straight from the colon of all that is wrong. NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, should be above criticism IMO. If it is, then where do you draw the line? A concept you cannot criticise has no place in the free world. I am sick and fucking tired of this fear that countries have for criticizing Islam.

To those who drafted and voted for this bill: Freedom of Speech can hurt sometimes, so boo fucking hoo. Get over it, pussies. You represent the same people that burn American flags in the streets. Hypocricy? If Iran can use the Holocaust for humor and spread anti-Jewish propoganda, then a Danish cartoonist sure as hell can draw Muhammed in the same light.

After reading this, I no longer feel any obligation to the UN. Screw that decaying bureacratic corpse. Where's Team America when you need it?

Revere, I can only say this:

    # Don't underestimate your enemy
    # Don't generalize

"They" have a different culture than ours. Who are we to say that we are more advanced? Who has the book of Answers to all Questions?

    Nobody on this forum.

It matters for the UN. I'm not completely familiar with the UN system, but from reading the link above I understand that any resolution has to be ratified by the the UN General Assembly. Which is not happening of course. But in the words of Kofi Annan: “.. the selectivity and politicizing of its (the Commission for Human Rights) activities [were] in danger of bringing the entire UN system into disrepute”. And the new UN Council for Human Rights are following the exact same track as the old commision.

Look at the countries represented in the UN Council for Human Rights, it's just a joke!

Except for technology, some places over there havent changed at all in centuries. And there culture is the way it is, not cause of their religion, but because of a muslim king in Spain in the 11 th century.

Come on, the whole "backward civilization" argument is nonsensical. Many rural areas in the West are just as backward and just as unwilling to change as the stereotypical Muslim slum. Meanwhile many cities in the Arab world are booming modern metropoleis, and their people interact with the Western world on platforms of trade, political discourse, higher education and every other field that matters.

Also, when it comes to religious conservatism, I would like to point out that there is a Christian-Reformed party in the Dutch parliament that wishes to withdraw voting rights for women and wishes to reinstate the death penalty. These are considered inhabitants of a modern, advanced Western country but are they really any better than the people you're deriding?

Another fact is that in the age when the Muslims were knocking on the gates of Europe, their states and societies were a lot more developed than ours, at every level. They had more advanced science, medicine, theology, astronomy and institutional organization than the backwater that was Medieval Europe. There was simply nothing here that they could possibly desire, and so they left us alone. The same rationale kept the Mongols from razing Western Europe to the ground when they easily could have. Even as late as the sixteenth century, the Ottoman Empire was hailed in the Netherlands as an example of religious tolerance, the great opposite of the murderous Spanish Inquisition. The Inquisition which, through killing or setting to flight all the Muslims and Jews in Spain, had reduced that country to utter bankruptcy.

    Learn from history.

yeah, im well aware that there are ignorant backwards people here, but how many of them are zealots who would strap bombs to themselves and run into a market ?
