Obama black? Why? His mother is white, his father is black. He has as much entitlement to be called black as to being called white. As if that mattered :)

And I'm not quite seeing tired, poor, huddled masses of Americans emigrating to Australia, but with the new president one never knows :D

It seems you don't trust you're new president, why?

The problem is that they can't pay the passage over, the problem is that they're not allowed to! Perhaps if still-incumbent Prez. Bush will take a leaf from his former colleague Fidel and open the harbour of Mariel from time to time to let a few undesirable Americans escape...

    :D

In principle I don't trust any new president until he gets old

Yeah, I know what you are saying. You can't trust men at all.
    I like you're humour and i love you're elephant , it's cute!

I reckon Obama will make a better president than Bill Clinton was.
I don't think it will be to bad to have him as you're president.
I think he will help America a little bit, but you still can't trust him cause he's a man.:)

People in America end up with two jobs to make ends meet because they go into debt purchasing items they don't need or play the game of 'keeping up with the Jones'. There are enough programs that support the truly poor. They are provided enough for what they need, not what they want.

The USA also has given huge amounts of disaster relief to other nations including China and N. Korea. Can Australia or any other nation claim such a record? No, Australia will never become 'the new America'. Not intended as an insult but discounting such a boast. The USA is still the land of opportunity for those that want to work for it. Unfortuately, the new generation has been brought up having been given everything and now think they are entitled to the good life without paying for it in sweat. Their number 1 idol/role model..................Paris Hilton.

A lot of people work two jobs, not to survive, but to get ahead. Me and my wife do some part-time work for that reason. Some people don't prepare themselves for the workplace by attending college or a trade school and it makes things tougher. Some people have criminal records and that hurts your chances as well. Its like what was said in an earlier post that your actions and choices can make succeeding a whole lot harder. Poor people in the U.S. live better than regular people in alot countries, owning cars, houses, and such.

It wouldn't be the first time actually. After the California Gold Rush, quite a few Americans emigrated to Australia and started digging there.

    Hi Pzj.

If you take a look at my other post, i've already stand down from this topic.
Australia and britain are just as good as America is.

It is true, American's think that there better than everyone else, some one told me that, and i did not believe them, but it's true.I can tell by how you answered me.
I think America is a great place, America does have really good destinations, but also you American's have to realize that you're Country has bad points just like any other country does on this planet.
Yes paris Hilton makes a bad reputation, i'm not a paris Hilton fan either.
America may be the land of Oportunity but Australia is known for "The Lucky Country",has America ever been called that before?
I may dislike you're goverment but i don't dislike the normal joy blow American's.
I never intened to hurt any American's on here.I take back what i said earlier and i stand down. Truce American Guys.:D

You don't want to go into that mate, Australia has invested in millions of dollars both in money and as food packages, as well as military, police, and rebuilding support units (mainly trained and traded, units within the Australian Army). Just of the top of my head we are currently in Fiji, East Timor, Afghanistan, Iraqi, Indonesia, and Burma, helping with all the above. It is true Australia may not be able to match the large amounts of care given by the American government, but his is mainly due to the fact that your economy is much stronger then ours and you have more money to use. This how ever does not make use shy away from our responsibilities to the other countries, especially in times of natural disasters such as the floods and cyclones in South East Asia, or the military actions in Fiji.
According to the News the other night, Australia has over 15,000 troops, mainly mixed up in peace keeping operations through the world. This may not seem like a lot but with around a standing army of around 100,000 it is a significant amount of our armed forces, this also includes the RAN as well as a sizable force of the RAA, we have lost, from what I can remember 3 helicopters during these peaceful operations in the process of saving lives, one was a collision between two of the aircraft in terrible stormy weather, so the Price of the Australian contributions can not be ignored.

So to answer your question, Yes, Australia can say they have with pride.

Also Australia may not be the "New America" but it is home to thousands of refugees fleeing the poverty, natural disasters and wars throughout the world, many who attempt to come to the country through illegal channels, but nonetheless still attempt to come, why? Because just like America, Australia is full of opportunities, as long as you are willing to work.

Australia is always asking for qualified workers for both hospital, building, manufacturing and many other types of jobs, and they are all welcome to this country by our Prime Minister and the people.

You are right here, Americans are very imperialist, always having to be the "big brother" of any nation in trouble, but I do not believe it all to be due to the American way of life, that is the same for any superpower just like the British and the other Europeans when they started to colonise the lands outside of Europe, they thought they were better then everyone else as well, I just think that the Americans have taken that part of the Europeans with them, while I can honestly say that Australia don't care enough to get overly involved, we offer help and if they turn it down, then fine. However if it is a Saddam Hussein type of situation Australia would be right into it, just as they were in the Iraqi and Vietnam war, Right behind our allies the Americans, as we have always been since ww2.

    There's charity for ya!
Not true, the Brits drive on the wrong side of the road and they only survive by eating at Indian and Italian restaurants! Their breakfasts are ok, considering.

Not true, there are a lot of places in America where you are called lucky if you go there and come out alive :D

I not sure if we should thank the Americans or curse you for putting Macdonalds into Australia, it has become a bit of a habit for Australians. Oh and we drive on the left side as well does that make us just as bad as the English?:D

We accept our culpability and I offer my deepest apologies. I don't understand the fascination with chemical-laden cardboard food.

You can stop that nonsense, Sweden did the move in the 1970s.:D

Rich coming from a Portugese, famous for their...erm...well...I'm sure there's something ;)

Actually I really enjoyed being in Portugal, though no body really seemed to understand the concept of a queue, damn foreigners.

American patriotism is a fascinating phenomanon to an outsider, fervant, often justified but just as often misguided. It is one of America's greatest strength and yet also one of the most dangerous things about Americans. At the very least it is always entertaining, I can't help thinking sometimes we could do with a bit more of that kind of pride over here.

We didn't put McDonald's into Australia, the directors of McDonald's corporate board, a private group of businessmen, did. If Australians didn't like McDonald's and support that decision by buying McDonald's products, the chain wouldn't be there today. It's called the "free market" and it's part of capitalism. Americans have nothing to do with McDonald's being in Oz today, Australians do; if you don't like their food/service/style of doing business, stop buying their cheeseburgers. After all, no one is holding a gun to your head.

I don't think he intended to start a row about it, nor was it intended as an actual insult to the US.
