Fremantle ambushed me. The river was fresh water and the barnacles all died and let go their grip on the insides of our cooling water lines, clogging the filters. We shifted filters six times in an hour vice once in 24 hours like normal. Yeah, I had the "good luck" to be on duty the day we arrived.
Gee i can understand this happening when you were in...I think i have a photo from that time... Lol... You know, Fremantle has an AFL team...The Fremantle Dockers:
I went to the Dockers very first game in AFL (Very historical)...Which they won. As my Brother worked in the stadium at the time (Adelaide Oval) i was able to go into the change rooms to watch them celebrate their first AFL win...I don't have any kids to tell so im telling you!
Had a friend who was a G Canal vet. Stayed in guard and reserve for 40yrs. He only wore his CIB. Stated it said it all.
"...I have truly seen the elephant, I wish to never see it again..." Civil War letter home. ("Seen the elephant" meant to see something awesome, dangerous, etc. In this case, his first combat.)
It's been a while since I've mentioned I shook Roy Clark's hand. I shook Roy Clarks hand ! AND he signed my cowboy hat.
Along about my 18th birthday, I was living in Arlington VA. A young lady with whom I was quite taken and lived in Norfolk (I’d actually gone to school with her in 4th & 5th grade & much later in our teens, after having been set up on a blind date by a friend, we went out a lot when I was in town for the summer) was doing a weekend in DC a field trip with one of her high school classes. And so, I was busily contriving how to get into the hotel where she was staying . . . the lobby didn’t work, they seemed to have that covered, so as I scouted around the back, a door opened and out with a small entourage stepped one Johnny Cash. Quick on my feet, for once, I blurted out “Good evening Mr Cash.” His troops closed in but he raised a hand and said “how you doing?.” “Just trying to sneak in,” sez I and with a smile he said “hold the door for the man.” And the rest is just a fond memory from some 50 plus or so years ago.
I wish someone would have told me that about BPR. And beautiful women. Life would have been so much easier.
