Hitler's War? By whom? I seem to recall David Irving had a book by that name. Instead I would advise the Hitler biography by Ian Kershaw in 2 vols., Hitler: Hubris and Hitler: the Nemesis. The latter covers the WW2 period, the former before that (surprise!).

Za Rodinu , the factories were being transported to the Urals before June 22,1941. It takes more than weeks or months to move the many factories in western russia. So the soviets had moved all they could from the threaten sectors before the attack. In OTL they were at the maxium production levels unless they started moving idustrial plants in 39, or 38.

There were two plans from the General staff for the invasion of russia one from Halder and one from Marcks. I forget the differences but if Hitler had followed The plan to make Moscow the central focus of the attack with the wings just securing the flanks the germans might have beaten russia in 41. The majority of modern russian tank corps were in the southwestern district. As per Zukov's war game plan for the attack/counter attack of germany through rumania. In this war game he dfeated a german attack on russia using a counter attack through rumainia. Hitler by spreading his forces on three objectives, with none of them being the main point of attack he diluted the advantages the Wehrmacth gave him.

And given that all previous ger. campaigns were short conquests Hitler's insistance on securing the Ukraine for its economic resources doesn't fit if the campaign was going to over in months not years. If the main goal is a short conquest of russia all resoruces should have put into the Moscow first plan. Once defeated the economic regions would be ripe for the picking. This was Hitler's biggest mistake. Not holding true to the blitzkrieg doctrine that the Wehrmacht was built for. In august 41 Russia was his . By delaying the attack on Moscow he threw away all that the Wehrmacht won for him.
