    Gents,

yesterday I received TARGET OF OPPORTUNITY by Lt. Col. Dick Hewitt. Mr. Hewitt flew P47 and P51 with 78FG, 82FS from '43 to '45. Did two tours and two extensions!!

I started in it last night and like his description of training so far. Easy to read. Very interesting stuff. Contains those little bits of info I hadn't known/read before. Pretty detailed about some of his combat missions, including a description on how he downed a me262 on its final approach...

The book is self-published and came with two signed pics of Mr. Hewitt in a P47 and a P51. He has no website, but anybody who is interested in his book, lemme know, and I'll sent/post his e-mail address...

To add to Stevin's posting, Hewitt was not able to receive confirmation for the aerial jet kill, only the one on the runway landing. The former would have given hm 5 aerial victories and ace status.

A hot book if you can find it is "Eagles of Duxford" 78th fighter group in WW 2 by Gary L Fry and published by Phalanx Publishing of St. Paul Minnesota. ISBN # 0-9625860-2-1 1991 date. On page 79 is a great pic of Hewitt's olvie-drab P-47 Bubble top with the new black/white chekerboard cowling....a mean machine ! Mustang are you taking note here...... ? :D
