I don't know if I consider "NASA" a credible source, you can't believe everything you read on the internet. I guess I'll take your word for it though; in the spirit of not being contrary.

    Yeah I know.

I was expecting a rather sharp put-down of NASA though - for misspelling Northrop in the P-61 caption

    Northrup...Good enough for Government work.

I share with you some pictures of fighters Curtiss P-40 operating aboard aircraft carriers or on the flight deck. Some questions for aviation and history enthusiasts of WW2. There was a naval version of the P-40? Which countries have used during the war and which Operating Theatres? To view photos visit the link below:

Those are just USAAF P-40s being ferried by aircraft carrier, that was done a lot with land-based aircraft, they get flown off once the aircraft are in range of their destination, such as USS Wasp ferrying fighters to Malta in early 1942, I don't recall Curtiss ever developing a "navalized" P-40 during WWII.

    Yes...

Another link from 2011, big surprise.

And don't let his first post in this thread fool anybody, as he knows exactly what the photos are...

He posted this back in 2014 on several forums

I don't know how to do that but I think the moderators might pick up on it.

Just to the left of the buttons labeled "MultiQuote" and "Quote" is the Report button. Hit it and it will go to a mod for review.

This guy is a member of many aviation/history forums and posts the same messages on all of them. Google the first message in quotes and you'll find over 70different hits! Some of these are repeats but its clear that there are at least 30 distinct forums he posts the same spam to.

He uses different user names, names and locations for his profiles. Some include:
    • Tony/Anthony Osborne from TN
    • Tony/Anthony Osborne from Washington DC
    • no name from Florianopolis, Brazil
    • Stephan from Denver CO
    • Eric from Cleveland, OH
    • Sven from Sweden
This is clear evidence that his only interest is trolling the web for hits. Its time to show this guy the door.

PS: Yes, I have too much time on my hands tonight.

As A-58 noted, it's to the left of the quote buttons, now lets get rid of this spammer! :pistols:

He often makes minor goofs with the English language. Watch for that when you suspect a sock puppet.

he's been floating around here for a few years...irritating, but harmless. There are so many other knuckleheads to deal with that are actually harmful.

Its not so much the content of his "contributions" to the forum, its the manner in which he does it. I'd have zero issues if he posted a link saying "have a look at these photos". He's done this in the past (IIRC) and I haven't had problems with them. In fact, I've actually enjoyed scrolling though the photos even if they are just stolen from other sources and contain no original commentary. But recently he's started asking questions as if to further his own knowledge yet clearly has no intention of following up on them. This, coupled with the facts that he's now simply reposting old links, that he has at least 6 english-language fake "profiles" to post the same garbage across the web (yet doesn't even take the time to post a direct google translate url) and posts the same content on dozens of forums verbatim - even on forums where it is totally irrelevent (he's posted this on *political* forums, as well as gun forums) - says to me that he's only trolling for hits.

Yes, he's harmless, but this stuff just annoys me. There's no malice intended but its just rude and disrepectful to misrepresent your goals like this. I guess the manner in which he posts *does* sound nicer than saying "hi, click on this url so I can leech off of you to make my crummy ad revenue". Maybe its an ego (immaturity) thing -- something like "my website is better than yours because I have more hits". I'm inclined to say that he's a kid based on the behaviour I've seen and the generally low quality of the commentary anywhere on that site. If that's the case I'll back off because there's no need to step on him for being "immature".

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I believe honesty and principles are important, and should trump most other things. It seems like its struck a nerve with others too.

Anyway, I've vented enough for tonight. Its not my decision to make. Have a good one everyone.
