Skipper, do you still think it's ok for douche bags to dress up like heroes? When they are sorely lacking in character, and in the pictures above, common sense as well?
Maybe things get lost in translation but these idiots are not wearing the Uniform as costumes or to "look cool" but are trying to get attention portraying something they are not. I have a few hats with Unit insignias and an Army windbreaker/PT jacket given to us from a real Soldier. I was told to 'wear them with pride' but I sometimes feel like a Poser myself if I do. Although I do wear the hats occasionally and I'm quick to tell anyone who asks when or where I served where the hat or jacket came from. I also always add, "Some people wear their favorite sports team hat, This (pointing at the hat) is MY Team ".
No need to worry. What you describe is NOT posing. You wear those items with pride and enjoy them. I have a hat and T-shirt I got at the USS Kid that I really like and wear them. Never was in the Navy, (though I spent a good deal of time on ship) and am not pretending to be, I really love the Kidd though.
Very perceptive WeedHopper! I was going by what some Air Force guy posted about the photo, like I said;
Thanks for the encouragement and I do wear the hats more often than not. Just feels awkward now and then, but I've had some great conversations because of those hats!
You hit the nail on the head. These people are trying to fool others into thinking they're something they're not. I never served, nor do I wear items from the military, so it's really offensive to me. Wearing a hat or tee shirt is different. You're not trying to be something you aren't.
You'd think if he was going to show up standing out like a turd in a punchbowl that he would at least get the uniform right. http://guardianofvalor.com/michael-r-schrenk-fake-marine-found-erie-county-fair-arrested/
What's really sad is these guys, Schrenk and Androsky, weren't even good impersonators. They're uniforms were so jacked up it's obvious they're not what they're pretending to be.
Odd birds. I wonder what their motivation is, I'd have to think there are better ways to capture false glory than an ill fitting uniform.
of course not. We were in fact talking about two different things. I didn't realize these guys were not military ,but Halloween disguise amateurs. My mistake, I thought they WERE serving their country, but when I saw all those medals I realized they were fakers.
Halloween digises aren't even a problem in my book. It's where they start trying to gain some benefit by claiming they are part of something they aren't that it crosses the line in my book.
That is because you guys used the word "poser" as "faker" or" hoax" , whereas I rather use it as a" show off" All is good for me too . :S!
Have to wonder about the mental state of those who don fake uniforms. ..Maybe those guys need some meds rather than a beating.
