    Here's some fun fact about Ulm until you find it out.

    Albert Einstein was born in Ulm and Erwin Rommel was born in Heidenheim, a city near Ulm. I went to Heidenheim once but unfortunatelly I was just 10 and I can't remember much from that visit.

    I have more details from my father who asked my Grandmother about who each of these people were;

    with reference to the better quality images i uploaded

    -she could not identify anyone in the first family photo, my father thinks it is most likely my Great great grandfather and a few others of similar distance.

    -2nd family photo is Herman rhinestatler in uniform with the wehrmacht cuffs

    -Gustav Motkovski, my great great uncle who married into the family,

    -Sepp Whitmann, another great uncle

    -unsure of the side on shot of the rifleman

    -on the left of the 3 wounded men is Ferdenand Rhinestatler, my great uncle, Grandmothers brother, the other 2 are his cousins we believe

    Anyone able help regarding searching for service numbers etc? Ive tried to use a few of the database sites to find information but obviously its a lot more complex than if i were in Germany, ive got a meeting with my research supervisor who is a professor of modern German and European History to discuss so bringing along as much info as possible is the aim :)

    Edit: My dad has been to ulm a couple of times to visit family, but the family themselves were spread around several villages/towns so he is working out a rough map of them all as you read this.

    Thank you for your continued help

    James

    If you start threads for each of the identified individuals in the title it may get you some more detailed responses. Including the service in the title may help as well. That way it may not only get a response from our members but may show up in searches performed by others looking for or with similar information.
