In Feb 1943 the German Marshals and Generals wanted a C-in-C East. Von Rundstedt was supposed to be the man to deliver the demand to Hitler. Major Engel who had been orderly officer with von Rundstedt several times flew to Paris to talk to him.

" I gave him the fullest report of recent events on 22nd Feb 1943, holding nothing back, and said that this intervention and demands were awaited. I told him that the Führer would definitely give ground if he put himself as spokesman for all field marshals. Result was deflating. Von Rundstedt turned everything down with resignation and said literally: " Why is it me who has to mount this old donkey? Let von Manstein and von Kluge handle it." He was too old and was sorry, but preferred not to die plugging gaps in the dyke."

From " At the heart of the Reich" by Major Gerhard Engel ( Hitler´s army adjutant 1938-1943 )

Well, remember that Kodachrome came out in the mid-thirties, as did its German equivilant. I forget the brand name though. It was complicated to develop, but not difficult to film with. Even the Japanese had color motion picture film for their civilian market as well as their military. I have watched film from the era, and it isn't "colorized" in the modern sense. Some (moving and still) was "tinted" at the time, but most was simply color film.

One of the first Finnish civil casualties on day one when Finnish cities were bombed was 7-year-old Armi Hillevi Metsäpelto, who turned into a cult figure during the Winter War in Finland.

Not absolutely sure but these were being sold in the Finnish net auction,as the identity card for a Red Army female captain, and one for a Red Army conscript. Thanx for any extra info by those who understand the language...
