    I've followed up on the prong device, the only differences from my post is the amount of explosive used by the engineers, some read 50lb.some 15lb.

    This is correct.
    The idea was that the tank plowed into the hedgerow and witdrew, leaving a nice found hole for the engineers to shove a block of explosive into. The charge went bang and removed a section of hedgerow and the the tank then advanced into the open field laying down covering fire for the following infantry. The tactic was partially successful, it was too time consuming and left the engineers exposed to fire. Fesults of the bang were not always satisfactory and the tank was still open to panzerfaust attack.
