Hey guys,I understand both the U.S.90mm gun used on the M36 Jackson, and the soviet 100mm gun used on the SU-100,had towed variants.I know not much about the units that these guns were attached to(especially the soviet ones),but I presume the U.S.towed guns were attached to Infantry units and/or T.D.BTNS,not unlike the towed 3in A/T.gun.Is this correct.?Cheers,Lee.

Only 200 of the towed 90mm gun were manufactured and there was little interest in them by 1945 by the US army. The poor performance of towed tank destroyer during the battle of the bulge convinced the army to go exclusively with self propelled tank destroyers. The few 90mm at guns produced were intended for tank destroyer units, as was the 76mm towed gun. Infantry units had to rely on the 57mm 6 pounder for their organic anti-tank defense (although it was common for tank destroyer units to get attached to particular infantry divisions for extended periods of time.)

Towed 90mm guns in the US Army were technically AA guns though capable of anti-tank work or indirect fire support.

Just to clarify, the 200 90mm guns I referenced were specifically designed as AT guns, not to be confused with the more common 90mm AA gun.
