    Is that still going on?

After Russia got one over on President Obama, Syria "suddenly" disappeared from the major news broadcasts.

I guess if we ignore the problem long enough it will end, for better or worse, eventually.

This sort of reminds me of the progress of Civil War in Spain in the 1930s

There were plenty of Communists on the Republican side but also plenty motivated by idealism, mostly of a left wing persuasion but not all.

Substitute Jihadists for Communists and I don't think that it was in our (my) interest that either the Communists in Spain or now Al Quaeda in Syria should succeed.

Still there may have been a point, now long gone, when the moderates might have succeeded.

Not doubt the heavy lifting of Russian\Iranian backed regime of Assad will win this round.

However, I have some sympathy for the idealism of some of those young British men in von Poop's film clip..

Just mulling this over and wondered again if we are not applying double standards?

Were those returning Britons from Spain treated as Communist Terrorists - apparently we will treat any returning Britons from Syria as suspect Al Qaeda Terrorists.

Perhaps the colour of their skin?

From what I recall those Americans who fought in the Spanish Civil War were indeed treated as at least potential Communist Subversives. I think I read that they weren't even allowed to inlist in the US military.

Scipio....there probably is a difference..I don't think there was an anti Home as in anti UK feeling from most of those that went to Spain and returned....I have my doubts on those of our Islam bretheren going out there and their return. Their fight is not just with Syrias Assad. That may sound blinkered but I only have to listen to one in particular who does not want to come back anymore to know his fight is not just against the Syrian regime. The lads and lasses returning from Spain may have ideological differences from their peers at home in UK, but there was never any real threat that they would want to kill and maime their own countrymen.
