Note to that,Fey's crew had a combat diary for this mentioned actions and wrote daily kill score and type of tanks that they destroyed. It can be found at the book.
Im not sure about the story with the TigerI is correct , it sounds abit suspect if not unbelieveble. But the story about "Karl Körner" and his score of 39 IS-2's knocked out in a single action is true. As ive read in many books and places, the engagement started at a darn long distance, but still it only took 1 direct hit from the 88mm L/71 on the IS-2's frontál armor to knock them out. 8 of the IS-2's were hit on thier frontal plate... About Michael Wittman's gunner, Balthasar Woll, he wasn't part of the crew of Tiger I-007, because he was send to a medical center(?) by Wittmann, he survived the war and died in 1996, in the meantime, did he had any interviews with the media like Discovery Channel or something? I am curious to see this formidable tankgunner being interviewed, that would be great  (BTW, whats History Channel?)
Ok thanks, do you happen to know if there where any interview with Balthasar ''bobby'' Woll? (Wich was my main question)
My understanding is that by the time of Wittmans' death, Bobby Wohl had been given command of his own Tiger. If memory serves, I believe Wittman insisted that Bobby Wohl be awarded the Iron Cross or he would not accept his award. (One of the few instances where an enlisted-man was awarded the Iron Cross.) wrong wrong and wrong anyway, on topic now... take a look at this guy; http://www.3ad.org/wwii_heroes/pool_laf ... nance1.htm Lafayette pool, an american in a sherman with 258 tank kills!
Here is a lost of an Tiger aces at this site. http://www.alanhamby.com/aces.html Smeghead... I doubt that he could have taken out that many German tanks unless it includes APC's and if you consider the 234 series tanks. Since the Germans could muster up less than 300 tanks at a time during most of the war.
Define "muster up"? The Germans had more than 300 tanks in active service during most of the war, I should think.
Smeg: Thank you for sharing the link on lafayette Pool. I was not aware of this gentleman nor his story. Gunter: I don't believe it was ever stated his crew knocked-out 200+ tanks. Mention was made of tanks, soft-skinned vehicles, APCs and anti-tank-guns. Still, quite an achievement, and a very interesting story. Tim
Muster up- maximum combat ready tanks to face an enemy army at a certain location. (not exactly what i mean sounds better in my head lemme try rethink).
Oh, I see. I would say how many tanks can be mustered up depends on the location. Prokhorovka had more than 300 tanks, IIRC... while I am sure there were areas of the front that had none
