Flogging Molly earlier this month. Yet another great performance from them and a great lead-in to St. Patrick's Day. Although the show was great, the think I will remember most is standing at the back of the club and feeling two large hands slap down on my shoulders -- hard. I turned and there was a giant head about 3 inches from my face and it roared at me -- for a good 20 seconds. The head then rose up as the body to which it was attached straightened. Keeping in mind that I am 6 feet 3 inches tall and way 200 pounds, there was a monster of about 6 foot 10 and perhaps 320 pounds standing next to me. I have no idea who he was but I am guessing he was half my age and, for a moment, I thought I was about to be dinner for some throwback to the last ice age. He then challenged me and said "let's go" which I interpreted to mean that the inebriated fellow really did want a fight and that I really was going to die. I replied, "excuse me?" and the go told me "let's go! You need to get out there and mosh." So rather than eat me, the monster wanted me to go dance with him, which actually struck me as more bizarre than anything else I could have expected. I politely declined. The fellow left. And I told my 15 year old son that he is never allowed to drink alcohol.
Not sure if any of you guys will have heard of this band, but Better Than Ezra came and played at my college a few weeks ago, they played a pretty great show.
Sisters of Mercy the other night. Great "old" heavier rock´n roll and it´s good to hear the hits, dominion was great but their version of This corrosion was murder.... Anastacia and Bruce SPRINGSTEEN in June, Jarre perhaps in May next.
lol - you don't 'dance' in a Mosh Pit at a Flogging Molly concert! You through elbows and what not. My and my coworker (who went to FM concert with me) ate at the Irish Pub before hand and were talking to a monster of a guy in there. Ran into him at the FM concert of course, but he was more of a gentle giant then anything, apologizing (In drunken state) whenever he walked into some one. There were a few interesting people there...a 40+ year old woman who was more wasted then anyone else. Had trouble walking anywhere, and came by us several times (we were standing at top of 5 stairs near the bar). Pretty amusing. The dance floor area (place acts as a club too) was a giant 300+ person mosh pit for most of the night. Music started around 8/8:30 PM and ended around 12:30AM for us...The Pub Trio, The Aggronauts, and Flogging Molly (in order of appearance).
Musso -- When a monster is asking me to dance, I am not about to argue the semantics of it with him! I was just hoping he did not hurt me when I declined. It was an interesting mosh pit because, quite honestly, I don't think most of the people there actually understand the energy of a most pit. I thought they were very tame compared to the pits of 2 years ago. Still, FM puts on a great show. I shall remember that you are a fan the next time they come around.
I know this will show me for the "old fogey" I truly am, but I know where my little bit of discreationary dollars are going next month! The Metra is only about ten blocks away from my place, and it has been awhile since I went there for a concert of any type. Cher's "Farewell Tour" was it. Next month it will be REO Speedwagon, Styx and 38 Special at MetraPark on Friday, May 29. The Can't Stop Rockin' tour concert will start at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $35, $45, and $55 and go on sale at 10 a.m. April 18 at the MetraPark box office, Rimrock Mall customer-service counter and local Cellular Plus stores. I'll go with the "cheap seats", because after the "powers that be" got all the acoustics sorted out about 15 years ago those have better sound, and much less crowding than the main floor or the front rows.
We just had it announced that AC/DC will be here in August, following a couple of months of rumours; the new rumour is Aerosmith and ZZ Top together also coming in August. I know what we will be doing! We miss John Fogerty in June though.
Last weekend I saw David Bryne, former front man of the band Talking Heads. I must confess to an unfair advantage in this thread because I'm a (part time) Roadie. To be more precise, as we very rarely tour with a band, we are what's known as Local Stage Crew. The company I work for, Roe Street Runners, has contracts with various City Councils in the north west of the UK to provide Crew for their main venues as and when required. So, most weekends I get to go to "gigs" (weather I want to or not). It's hard work though, we start early with the "Load-In", we offload all the equipment...that can be 1 truck load, or, 30 trucks, wagons, big-rigs, whatever you wanna call them. We then spend the next 5 hours putting it all together (Building the Show). Rigging, lighting, wiring, PA, the on-stage set... the entire show. Then immediately after the gig, when you are humming your way back to the car park, we start the "Load-Out", usually takes up to 3/4 hours to take it ALL down and re-pack the trucks, then the band or artist move on to their next gig, and we go home...sweaty and very tired. Fans of live music like Kai, and the rest who pay good money for tickets to attend concerts must think I'm a lucky SOB. Well, I think I am too. A lot of times when I ask who we are doing, my next question is "Who are they". But, as Kai will probably agree, there is something about a "Live" performance that sets it apart from any CD or music video. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen such artists as Sir Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, P!nk, Diana Ross, Oasis...OK, sorry, I'm just "name dropping" now... :eyebrows:  Some good ones coming up...We've got; P!nk and Bob Dylan this month. Eric Clapton and Girls Aloud? in May. Then Beyonce in June. Rock on...
Last concert was Black Label Society and Sevendust, prior to that it was Taproot and Sevendust, and prior to that it was Dropkick Murphys with Angel City Outcast, and Everybody Out.
A couple of months ago, just before Mardi Gras, I was doing the pub crawl thing with an old army buddy around town, and we stumbled into a local watering hole that has live music every night. It was after 0100 or so, and the bouncer at the door stopped us and said "$5.oo each to get in." I said, "WTF, you got ZZ Top in there?" He said "yeah A-Hole, cough it up." So I figured, wow, five bucks to see ZZ Top, what a bargain, paid up, went to the bar and got a beer for me and my buddy. We worked our way to the stage area, and low and behold, it wasn't ZZ Top at all, but some "boom tap" band trying their best to make some descent noise. I don't know what the name of their band was, but it should've been "Courtesy Flush." We finished our beer and left. Can't trust bouncers.
I've seen BLS and the Murphey's here in Chico.............Zak Wylde is a mad man....."Beer cures everything"
I'm not much of a music aficionado, rarely even listen to radio. The last live music? Hmm, I saw James Taylor a couple of times, and took my wife to see Paul McCartney when he was in Philadelphia. Both were great shows.
Not a music fan! Music feeds the spirit, soothes the soul, inspires the mind and moves the heart. How can you not be a music fan?
Let's see. I have no sense of rhythm, can't carry a tune, and don't hear too well. I would rather have a quiet house with a good book or newspaper. If I am home alone, the thought of turning on the radio (I don't own any kind of music system other than the CD player on the clock radio) just doesn't occur to me. I have a car radio, but most times it's just background noise. My wife will make a comment about something on the radio, and I'll have no idea what she is talking about because I don't pay attention to it. If I listen to anything, it probably would be 50's doo wop or 60's Motown, especially the Temptations and the Miracles. However, not listening to it or listening to it is the same to me. Sorry. It's just not part of my makeup.
The Boss was great as usual....but No "River" this time.... "Old farts" Deep purple visit Finland on July 17th and got tickets for that.
Enjoyed Fleetwood Mac on Friday evening. Everyone except Christie McVie. They were very good. Next up is Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings on June 25. In August, we'll see Aerosmith with ZZ Top on the 9th and then later on the 24th, AC/DC.
just last night OASIS, KASABIAN, THE PRODIGY, blizzards, glas vegas and others unfreaking believable!!!!!!!!! and i have the cuts and brusies, jelly legs and hangover to prove it!
