The Psych Furs and Happy Mondays are coming to town in a few months with tix on sale later this week. I am tempted. Has anyone seen them in the past decade or otherwise willing to offer a recommendation?
Yesterday I took my 60 year old butt and put it on my mountain bike, then made it work over to the free Symphony in the Park concert about 4 miles from my place. On the way home I stopped and bought a six-pack of beer, so I could have a couple with supper. The Symphony Orchestra and the Billings Community Band both performed, and a number of choirs as well. The Billings Symphony Orchestra performed the selection "Mars" from the Holst "Planets Suite", as well as an arrangement of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" themes, a short set of WW2 "big band" tunes from Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, and lastly the songs of each branch of the Armed Forces. Of course as ex-Navy I was positive their "Anchors Aweigh" rendition was the only decent tune in the bunch! As each song from each branch was played the vets from each branch would stand and applaud, surprisingly (or not) the largest group were Navy vets. It always seems a bit of a surprise that so many from the landlocked state of Montana choose the USN, but then again maybe it is the very fact we don’t have access to an ocean which makes the navy such a desirable branch? It was gorgeous weather, in the upper seventies, no wind, and no rain of any sort. Last year the Symphony in the Park (as well as the Shakespeare in the Park) was rained out, and rescheduled for July 4th. But, there is always a Fourth of July concert in the park anyway, so I felt cheated last year. I took this shot to send to my son to show him the new "shell" that was built in the Pioneer Park for concerts and such.
I take it you where in that field outside Manchester ?? Our crew built that stage ... luckily, I had better things to do ... like the Beyonce concert. Last weekend it was a musical interpretation of "War of the Worlds" at the Echo Arena, surprisingly good show.
all three main bands were great, the blizzards were on first, followed by glas vegas, then Kasbian (yes they were fantastic)......then the prodigy were on - to be honest im not really into there music that much, but i was in the pit and they were freaken unreal....really got the crowd going! when oasis came on i was tired and brusied but i had never seen them before and they just blew me out of the water .....i've promised myself to see oasis again soon!
Oasis where at our arena in Liverpool earlier on this year ... never really been much of a fan myself, but found myself very much enjoying the show. Happened to be in the corridor when Noel was making his way from the dressing room to the tour bus .... No sh1t, he shook my hand and I quote, said "Havin a bit of a shaky one there kidda!?!" Wow !! Gobsmacked is an understatement !! I've got the "Set List" on my wall ... I'll scan it, and get it to you via PM if you want ??
Pet Shop Boys in Finland last night was a nice show. Played almost all their early hits, only missed the " What have I done to deserve this?". Liked the new version of "Two divided by zero". The stage how was pretty minimal but still in good taste. At times you wondered though was Chris Lowe really doing something...
Deep purple in Finland on friday. Great music and great band, and Ian Gillan was singing the high notes like at the peak of his career. And to end the show, "Smoke on the water!". Worth every penny!
I would have liked to have heard Ian Gillan sing some of his songs from JC Superstar. I think I have heard all of the other featured singers except for the original London and Broadway casts. The best so far was Garry Cherone from Extreme in a local production back in the early 90's.
Kai, "Always on my mind" by the Pet Shop Boys is one of my faves.....speaking of 80's bands.... We have a local band here in Denver CO call The Six Million Dollar Band (6MDB) Great cover band! Saw them this past Saturday night. Mark
,Watching and listening live on BBC Last night of the proms. A brit institution.. Pomp, circumstance, humour and flag waving at its best. Catch some on youtube from other years..
last live music was some knock off Beatles tribute band they had for free in the park one saturday this summer. If you had a few beers, i'm sure they sounded fine, but otherwise, eh. A good Trib band to see is Rain. Great show, great vocals and instrumentals. and another to see, Australian Pink Floyd. Sounds exactly like em.
Two weeks and Prodigy starts the " witner tour" part for me.. Just bought two good tickets for next August (!) U2 concert. Hoping to get tickets for Rammstein concert early next year but probaly have to pay extra to get them...
I heard Magnolia, a popular local dance band at our Mardi Gras Krewe's Coronation Ball the week before last. And last Friday, at the "Live After 5" downtown outdoor concert was Bits and Pieces, another popular local dance band.
Michelle knows how to move in all crowds! I've got Smokin' Joe Bonnamessa coming up soon. I saw him twenty years ago when he was 13 or 14. He may be the finest guitarist I have ever heard, and that includes an admittedly aging Jimmy Page (who I saw only with the Firm in 1985).
The Prodigy was great. They have excellent tunes and the massive drum beat machine makes it all perfect. They also played "Charly" wich I don´t think they have done so often. Back in 2005 there was some 2,000 in the crowd, now we had some 7,000. The atmosphere was really from another world, and I sang the all the time lyrics so I almost lost my voice. Song of the evening? " Take me to the hospital" of course...
