    Singapore was always a colony until 1959 my dear simon. :)

    Really? I'm going to have to try and find the differences between the statuses of the various parts of the empire (Colonial, Dominion, etc).

    Yea,we were very different from other colonies in our area in that we were the Crown colony. And the British meant to have kept us forever i should think if they could help it.

    Probably - Singapore was a useful chunk of Empire for us, mostly because of its role as a great base for the RN.

    Useful chunk? i rather call my island useful bit...hahaha....anyway,ironically,it was also the naval base that was part of the reason why the brits pulled out.
