I also think there very well might be a psychological weapon here, Un is a force comprised of several nations as apposed to one. Attacking the UN will be attacking several nations, which would with out a doubt bring about an appropriate response.

So a force of multiple nations might very well be a deterrent from falling victim to attack?

Yes, North Korea may be impressed, but I don't think Iran really cares, or does it?

I think Iran cares as well, if it didnt, it would have already attacked Israel?

Afterall the current regime might be crazy but they are not stupid.

That's a good question. Is Iran afraid of Israel, the International community, or the U.S?

Clearly Iran is not afraid of Israel..... The only reason it has not attacked is because of the US. But once the US bombs Iran ( as certain individuals are claiming in the US ) I belive Iran will respond with its arsenal on Israel, as by that time it will have nothing to loose.

Well it is believed that Israel has the bomb, that should dissuade Iran. as to bombing Iran, we'd better get a good bicycle before even considering attacking the second largest oil producer in the world.

Skipper is entirely right. The price of crude is already at prodigious heights what with the situation in Iraq, Nigeria and Chavez antics plus the ever growing demand from China. If there was a conflict with Iran now I don't want to imagine what would happen to the price of oil and the consequences on economies all across the globe.

Close UN stands for Useless Nations. It is a scheme by which certain members get rich quick such as the Oil for Food program.
    It belongs in Brussels.;)

***Hears Rounds out in the Distance***

Without the US support financially and militarily the UN would be far more disfunctional than it is....I see a great deal of idealists here, but the reality is unless China foots the bill, where are you going to get the operational cash?

Hans, a little more wit, a little less filth, please. I know... maybe some Orbit;)

The UN. is like a young child that has to learn from its mistakes. Like all of us it has its bad habits , but I believe that in time it will improve I even believe that in a near future the U.N. will get involved in Irak.

If we all learned systematically from or mistakes there wouldn't be any wars any more. The problem is that we never learn and history tends to repaet itself.

First of all we already talked about the U.N begin "useless" its not useless like skipper has said its like a child it takes time also with out Us support it would acutally still be fine not ever thing has to have the U.s in it to be "fixed" remeber veitname good "fixing" there :S haha i get very hurt when people say that the Un is uselss not only becuase my father was a UN peace keeper and died becuase the Un is trying to help improve life for people it just needs peoples help not people puting it down.. China also owns a great deal of money to the UN each country has to pay a tax and most of them are down on there pay mints also funny the Us is down on its pay mint about 1,000...

:mad Does not stand for Useless Nations it stands for United Nations and it works

I see you have issues sorry for your loss which has made you biased and that's completely understandable. You also suffer from the German guilt thing which I can understand my neighbor has the same problem when we first met she actually appologized for being German and wished she was French. Being an idealist makes one feel good, being a realist prevents armageddon. Oh the packs in the mail;)

    *****************************************************************

Za good point but wasn't the League of Nations even before that;)

Seems to me even the French(reference last election) know when something doesn't work and needs to be changed;)

I gotta agree with you on this, Portagee. The UN is more like the 40 year-old ne'er do well that continues to live at home on his parent's largess. Any job he ever had, he half did, all the while wanting a larger and larger stipend from his parents because any employer he might dupe into hiring him won't pay him "what he deserves."

Wait, could I also be talking about the US Federal gubment?

    1. Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice Doggie", until you can find a rock.

    2. Diplomats are just as essential to starting a war as soldiers are to finishing it...You take diplomacy out of war, and the whole thing would fall flat in a week.

    a "Will Rogers" moment

That's the problem in this country. Our citizens think that the Federal government is responsible for the educational system. Primary and Secondary education is a local issue. It just kills me when presidential candidates argue over what they are going to do for "education." There is nothing in the United States Constitution that gives the federales a hand in education and the 10th Amendment supposedly guarentees that it is the responsibility of the individual states. Federal government intrusion into what is a state's rights issue is why my parents paid for me to attend a private school and why I do the same for my girls.

Please don't think that I am griping at you Herr Oberst, far from it. I appreciated your joke. I just had to step onto my soapbox and rant a while. I feel better now.

Hans I hope you didn't feel offended when I said the UN. was like a child that needed experience. It also means that it's improving in time. Besides I gave several examples of UN. successes. One thing is for sure your father died for an ideal and that has to be respected, no matter what people think of the U.N.
