Viva Espana! Kicked black and blue by the Dutch, they still played superb football. Deserved champions.

The officiating, much like the English Team, was atrocious. Very inconsistent and some major blown calls too. The better team won, though Netherlands certainly had their chances.

I'm happy for Spain, though disgusted as the curse has struck Hollandf or the third time now. How terrible, they certainly had their chances. The victory is owned partly to a great Spanish goal keeper.

Nigel de Jong? Too many Kung Fu movies perhaps? He was lucky to get out of it with a yellow card. Nobody would have said it was a wrong decision to give the red card for de Jong but it would have been the end of final for the Holland team. So not so sure the referee was against the Holland team like everyone for the Holland team seems to say. Robben had two golden chances and he did not score. Getting two chances in the final game and you don´t put the ball in the net. That´s a disgrace.

To be fair, Robben was fouled on his second chance - when some one wraps their arms around you and throws your momentum off, its pretty hard to put the ball where you want it.

Thank God it's over. No more bleeding vuvuzelas, boring defensive teams and broken hearts.

As for the final it was to quote Gary a game of two halves. And Spain (Who had a pi** poor championship compared to the tiki taki that made them champions of europe) won the cup unconvincingly. Iker did it in my book.

I feel sad for the Dutch, but am actually glad they did not win, since they played nothing like the free flowing football that we know they can.

    Bring on Brazil 2014.

I thought Spain dominated for long stretches of the game. The inconsistent Ref certainly didn't help things either. But still, I thought Spain played better then any other team in the tournament.

well I hope we don't get to hold it in 2018, I much prefer the world cup on the continent, where it is a far better spectacle, as in italia 90 ..

You'd think by now they'd figure that out. Just like the Olympics, the Stadiums go to waste after the event. The reason the stadiums didn't exist before hand was because there was no NEED or DEMAND for them. Thats why its stupid to have such events in developing countries, whereas developed countries already have the stadiums in play and don't need to spend much money on them.

BBC Sport - Football - Nicolas Anelka laughs at 'nonsense' 18-match French ban

Nicolas Anelka says he is "laughing" after being banned for 18 games by the French Football Federation (FFF) over his conduct at this summer's World Cup.

The 31-year-old Chelsea striker was sent home from South Africa after a row with coach Raymond Domenech.

"This whole thing is a nonsense, to turn the page because [new coach] Laurent Blanc needs to be able to work in peace," Anelka told France Soir.

"These people are clowns. I'm dying with laughter," he added.

Anelka said the suspension "has no relevance whatsoever" because as far as he is concerned, his international career finished when he was thrown out of training on 19 June.
