Hey Danyel, Don't let it bother you. It's always interesting to see 270,000,000 Americans lumped together and hated by enlighted liberal thinking individuals from other nations. it's amazing that the Brits and Soviets were able to win WWII considering the mill-stone of the US around their necks.
Danyel, My advice is to stick to forums where the members I.Q is above single figures (judging by content & spellings in your quotes) "DON'T WORRY; BE HAPPY!" "ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE" (whistles)
Such condemming of whole countries or people is just a sign of stupidity, nothing more and should be ignored. Being french I know of what I speak because the two countries that are the favorite target of such idiots seem to be the USA and France.
My life philosophy, by Ebar I believe everyone regardless of their: Age Gender Race Region Sexual orientation and Nationality has an equal capacity to be really really stupid. Therefore: When meeting someone for the first time assume their a blithering idiot and you'll be right more often than your wrong.
Well, this pretty much lines up with the statements I made in the American elections topic, about allowing stupid people to own guns... In fact my philosophy can easily be compared to this, except that adding my theory that anything forcing you to act more stupid than you are in order to fit in is to be avoided or ignored, makes things a lot harder.
More seriously, both countries to the outside world give the impression (through what we see in the press) that they think theyare the best and they are the only ones that count. This like any other nation is from a minority of people who shout louder than the rest. I have met nice Americans and French just as I have met bad Brits, Germans, Dutch adn others. People from most coutries around the world have the same worries and thoughs, but not all see it that way.
I do not think that the US or France think they are the only that count. But what definately is true is that these countries both have the feeling of having to fulfill a universal mission. In the case of France this comes from the revolution and the declaration of human rigths which were to be universal. So France saw(and still sees) herself as having the mission to implant these values troughout the world. This is linked to a strong feeling of cultural uniqueness and fear of the powerfull rise of the english language.(Before being replaced by english, french was the international language). Another reason could be the french policy of being totally independent in international relations and to be treated as an independent great power. This can be seen in the french efforts to keep a national national nuclear capability, a national space programm, an autarctic defence industry....all elements that are uncommon for a countrie of France's size and population. All these elements combined, can be the reason why some people may see France as "being thinking the be only that count". Perhaps this is the reason why in the US during the Iraq crisis there was a slogan"Boycott France", and not "Boycott France, Germany, Russia, Canada, China....and all those who opposed to the war." Or was it just more simple to focuse on one? (Ironically during that time, the sale of german cars in the US reached a peak!)
Thought for a few days ago: "It's not hard to find twenty reasons for the start of WW1. What's hard is to find just three!"
