Blue Boy saved you Herr Von Poopy...you were nearly left on the island with Otto there...but that one gets you a ride back to the gunboat... The new lady's favourite....She's got taste.. http://youtu.be/qay7R0JKKsY
Great tune, urqh. Good choice on the YouTube video. The vinyl sounds much better than that digital crap the other YouTube videos use.
I always go back to Los Lobos. They do it all - Mexican corrida, blues, country, rock, and they do it all so well. When you marry the other guy I'll go to your wedding When they ask I will oppose it at once and if the judge asks why I oppose it I will say it is because you are my love and if the guy who is going to be your husband gets angry I'll take out my gun and start shooting After all I'm not afraid of death And I'll not go to jail because I'm the jefe (chorus) Ay! Anselma, Anselma, Anselma Little one of my sufferings Either let me visit you Or I will send you to the policia And if you refuse to get married to me I'll take away the ranch and the property of your father I'll tax them and even burn their house Because I'm the big jefe here I govern and I'm the boss in all this village I'm telling you this in case you want to escape Over there in the other one, the jefe is my uncle Elijio All I have to do is tell him and he will catch you for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZfI8D_Njzs
He might be Tommy, but I notice its still got guns peppered all the way thru it.... KB..motto..love me or leave me...but if you leave me..I've got a colt 45... Yep he's one of the most romantic yanks I've ever known... Love Yer KB...you make me laugh when I need a laugh...
I'm sure it flows much better in Spanish, but the real theme is not romance, it is power and corruption held over the heads of the powerless. Corridas are Mexican country songs that often have an upbeat sound to mask some rather dark plots. Los Lobos is also a great Rock, Country, Blues, American folk band. They don't stick with a formula, so they don't get airplay on commercial stations. Find a "best of" album called Wolf Tracks and you'll get a taste of what these guys can do. It's hard not to be a fan once you've heard them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFMuuPN7Jdo
I have to disagree abit as Los Lobos got a pretty good amount of air time here in Texas years back when I listened to radio a lot. Too be fair much Tex-Mex flow freely on either side of the border here abouts.
I'm listening to my wife but I'm hearing this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V92OBNsQgxU oops, gotta' go !!!!!1
Hey, guns can be romantic... sort of. I was just having a little fun, KB. I'm a bit of a Los Lobos fan, though I admit it is more of a casual appreciation. Thanks for the corridas lesson. That's good to know.
Yeah, I was just explaining the background of this music style. I was introduced to corridas by friends in Mexico. Many of them go back to the Mexican revolution and celebrate battles or heroes. Lately, there are narco-corridas celebrating drug traffickers or those who stand up to them. And just like old blues or country, there are a lot about picking up a gun to shoot the guy who steals your woman, or shooting the woman who steals your horse, or shooting the horse... wait, I don't know of any about shooting horses... This mostly comes from northern Mexico and the old ones usually have an accordion, so it can sound like polka music. The newer corridas are bringing in American blues and rock riffs with electric guitars. My awful Spanish is usually enough to pick up the gist of a story, but I totally miss the nuances unless somebody explains it to me, or as in this case I translate it on the net..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLnSoudTmak Bullish Boogie - Albert Lee He came on stage on Sunday Night with Emmy Lou Harris and Rodney Crowell for some good old Texas boogie. They tore the place down. If there is a faster guitar player in the universe, Albert is right there with him or her. I'll put him against Page or Jimi anyday. http://albertlee.co.uk/home
