I was just wondering how DCBGSU is doing on the 'dipping quitting'? I've cut back on the cigarettes but found a few good cigars to take their place. Not that any cigar is "good"!
Okay I done did it! Well kind of. In 15 minutes it will have been ONE week since I lit a cigarette. Taking 'baby' steps right now as I replaced the 20 or so cigarettes with one or two cigars per day. I do occasionally get 'jittery' but other than that doing fine. LOOK a butterfly.
Congrats Biak, I know that is a tough row to hoe. That nicotine is (apparently by research) more addictive than the opiates. I never had a real "habit" I guess, I smoked little cigars just to have something to do when I was courting my ex-wife, and then for the twenty years we were married I would light one of my little "crooks" up when she would have a cigarette after a dinner or something. When we got divorced I was able to just stop. And that was years ago.
Thanks Clint, I just keep telling myself, "cigarettes do not exist" when I get that craving. Keeping busy helps.
If you are serious Biak, don't use the nicotine gums or patches. They just replace one addicion with another it would seem to myself. I have a good friend who used the perscription Zyban for about three months, and he is "clean" now. I think the drug Wellbutrin is the same, but both are Dr. perscribed non-nicotine drugs. That was the best part for Joe, he could keep having a smoke or two every now and then since the stuff didn't have any nicotine in it he wouldn't "overdose" or anything. That way he was able to just cut way down, and eventually stop all together. The "need" disappeared, and he had been smoking up to two packs of Pall Mall unfiltered Kings for forty years. The drug is pretty "Pricey", but cheaper in the long run than buying cigarettes! Good luck to ya!
I'm actually doing quite well so far. I hate taking anything much more than an aspirin and since ya' don't inhale cigars they are my substitute of choice for now. Not much of a change I know but small steps, 20-30 cigarettes down to 1-2 cigars. I had considered the "divorce angle" but decided against that for obvious reasons ( I want to live in more ways than one). I've tried stopping before but I'm retired now, we're starting a new life in a new home and it's a good time to do it for real. Oh and I'm up to 15 push-ups ! Not to mention in the last week I've eaten a bushel of Apples, 3 pounds of seedless grapes, four loafs of bread, three gallons of trail-mix besides the usual three hot meals a day.
Biak, Congrats on your kicking the cigarette habit. I quite chewing tobacco years ago, and it was hell. Of course I chewed a lot, and it wasn't that sweet dippy stuff the kids like - it was the real thing. Anyway, I took up cigars to help me get over the cravings, and the next thing I knew I was smoking them all the damn time. Take care with them, they will sneak up on you. Hang in there. Duckbill
