UK Air raid shelters

I'm presuming it's brick, Dave? At the top of the thread is a photo of a garden shelter near me, where the back wall was reconfigured into a window postwar. Think it's only used as a shed, but would make a great man-cave!
Various local authorities provided brick shelters to tenements (one between two families), and middle-class families often built their own. I reckon if you waterproofed the structure's fabric appropriately, and let the inside dry out, it would whitewash quite nicely.

Its half set in the ground, has a sump hole at the bottom of the steps and even has a fireplace inside. The house I live in was built by my neighbours father/grandfather so they would've built the bunker too. I have not seen anything similar from my extensive google searches although there is another brick bunker on the roadside around the corner which appears to have been concreted shut and has some overgrowth on it.

It isn't massive (I can just about stand up Inside and I'm 6'3) but like you say it would be great storage or man cave. Although I am keen for it to stay in keeping hence the request for help because I don't want to do some I can't undo!

Here's a few pictures. You can see I have already run a water line and armoured cable, we did this when we had the garden dug over.

 

Sounds like a private build. Believe it or not, I've seen WW1 blockhouses with fireplaces, so I can see where the idea came from.
