I think whatever one's political sensibilites may be, we are probably all having very similar feelings, i.e. why the hell can't there be a half decent option on the ballot form for a change?!

Good point very similar to that clown of a President, Carter, that the US had in the 70s.....unfortunately some people often don't learn from their mistakes.

Let's hope so and cheers to France for getting on a better track as well. Hopefully Americans will learn that socialism doesn't work.

I thought you were sounding German:D

I can't wait for the Tories to get in. Then we'll see all the fickle middle class voters, who switched to Tories, bitching about their working conditions, interest rates and the £M's multiple directorships the Tories cabinet have in fund management firms.

We will then discover Lord Ashcroft has secured a very British Coup.

My local Council are Tory. Despite the Council historically funding childrens social services the Tories are looking at charges children for bereavement counselling. There is even talk of the Tories freeze drying bodies because it cheaper option than a christian burial.

Oh Bama is Jimmy (II), set up to fail. Peoples choice though, (cough-sputter).
Two party systems are easy enough to buy both, and they've been performing this bit of prestidigitation for decades.
10-20 parties then, no one has that much money.
No incumbents! EVER ! Then one pay-off does not buy the office for life!
What's the matter? Aren't there enough people to choose from without being forced to vote for one of two "professional" (in pocket) crooks?....every time?
    Yeah...raise taxes...that'll cure everything...
hahahahahahaha (just...exactly...what they want, and we keep falling for it.)

Was ('Soylent Green' is the subject and is in this case a singular noun, hence 'was').

Ed: Glad no one spotted the grammatical error there)

Doesn't stop it being a fact, Wales is not a country in the same sense that Scotland and Northern Ireland are, it is technically a part of England and has been for around 700 years. It occupies something of a nether region when it comes to status as whilst it isn't a separate country it does have a degree of autonomy, hence the use of the term 'sort of.'

And anyhow, there is little I could say that would make the Welsh dislike the English more than they do ;)

Very true, which is why I ignore a lot of what you say ;) particularly when you attempt wit or correct peoples grammar ;)

Interesting one on this England/Scotland/N.Ireland ongoing semantic debate.
Apparently up until the 1930s it was entirely acceptable to refer to any or all of those nations as 'England' or 'English', and that terminology was common, accepted, uncontroversial, and in official use by just about one and all. It only declined with the rise of a modern Scottish nationalist viewpoint.
The Oxford history of England from before that period covered all the separate nations.

The things you learn from Stephen Fry... :pipesmoke:

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Rising to a massive 18% under ............who?

And of course 1 million unemployed people. An absolute disgrace! Compare it to the 3.5 million under..............who?
2.8 million manufacturing jobs (40%) lost 1979-1992, decimated so we could all pursue new careers selling each other hamburgers

    Black Wednesday anyone?

    Who introduced the 'Poll Tax'..................?

Yes those great days when greed was great and there was no such thing as society.
When the Railways were broken up and sold off cheaply to Robber Barons who today recieve more subsidy in real terms than we used to pay for British Rail.
Riots on the streets of the UK...........
Arms sales to Saddam and the Matrix Churchill fiasco..........
They sure were the good old days.
I will always cherish the memory of my father sat day after day in the house because he could no longer find work. Being in his late 50's he never stood a chance and indeed never worked again.
David Cameron is intent on being Tony Blair Mk.II He has have moved The Tories to the centre ground and it will be a long while before we suffer another dose of Thatcherite folly.

The Welsh could reasonably claim to be an occupied country, since Longshanks reconquered them by force, and his ancestors held onto them the same way. No Treaty of Union with Wales.
In comparison with Scots Nats, the Welsh variety have a genuine grievance that doesn't start in 1296 and finish in 1314.
Oh btw, public sector spending under Thatcher rose from 19.88% of GDP in 1979 to 22% by 1987, and then "slumped" :)D) to 21.88% all the way through to 1997; MORE than ANY previous postwar adminstration (R. Middleton: The British Economy since 1945). Pure vandalism. ;)
The decline of British industry started in the '60s due to incompetent management, worker complacency, outmoded equipment and practises, and bloody-minded unions (ever seen the Peter Sellers movie I'm all right Jack? Wonder where he got the inspiration to send up British unions, eh?)
