Interesting you bring that up, coupled with the innumerable times those of us who do not live in Albion have been castigated for referring to the whole of the British archipelago as England, when it has been used by some citizens of the union themselves to refer to the whole, not just the more populous of the constituent parts. An example of this is Winston Churchill speaking to the House of Commons on Oct 5 1938, on the subject of the Munich Agreement. "If the Nazi dictator should choose to look westward, as he may, bitterly will France and England regret the loss of that fine army of ancient Bohemia which was estimated last week to require not fewer than 30 German Divisions for its destruction."

Yes industry declined since the 60's, it just a coincidence it dove 40% between 1978-83.
    Just a coincidence............a complete coincidence.

From the same place the inspiration came for 'Wall Street'?

Perhaps you are also familiar with the inspiration behind the film 'American Psycho'?

Yeah, 'cos everyone knows the oil crisis and world de-industrialisation didn't even begin until 1979. Wars? Poverty? Crime? Homelessness? Never happened before May 1979, y'know.....;)

What does an American movie have to do with a British Prime Minister? Oh, I forgot; you have no idea what you're talking about.....

Which British Prime Minister does that refer to? Oh, sorry....same answer as above!;)

Clearly the idea of having to take orders from a female for the first time in your life was unbelievably traumatic for you, given that you're still whingeing about it eighteen years AFTER she left office. Grow up.

Calm down Mr Angry. What happened in 1979 that caused a massive 40% loss of British manufacturing in just 5 years? Why did it not fall by 40% in say the previous 5 years?
If it was caused by outside factors how many other Western Nations lost 40% of their manufacturing in these 5 years?

And how exactly did Wars? Poverty? Crime? Homelessness contribute to a 40% fall in the Manufacturing Industries in 5 Years?

Better still what does I'm All Right Jack have to do with any Prime Minister?

Yep I simply can not match your crushing demolition of all my carefully crafted arguments. It's a wonder I don't slit my wrist in despair at the constant (metephorical)thrashings I recieve from you.

    Repetition.

Oh dear, I think that was a Freudian slip. How long have you had this problem with women?

Whine, whine, whine, whine...........far too much wine (or should that be Buckfast?)

Nothing. It was the cumulative effects of years of managerial incompetence, workers complacency, outdated industries using outdated machinery and working practices to make products no-one actually wanted, bloody-minded unions striking at a change of wind direction.....

    Who said it didn't?

You tell me why you think other industrialised nations weren't smart enough to watch Britain make a mess of it, and then AVOID the same problems themselves.

As for the rest of it, what part of 'grow up' didn't you quite understand for a man who claims to be 59 years of age?

Hey, without the tumult of the 1930s, would we be having this discussion?:D

Or the deliberate actions of a Government?

You for one. You mention the 'possibility' and hint that it 'might have' but you shy away from actualy saying it.
At least it is an admission that Thatcher got it badly wrong.

Well, thank God that Blair and Co have toiled so hard to reverse all those disastrous decisions of the Thatcher years, eh ?

    ( Er...didn't they...? )

In YOUR opinion, which we already know consists of 90% hearsay from the local pub.

You should stop listening to those voices, you know. ;)

I never said anything of the kind. Tell you what, when you actually have something intelligent to add that doesn't involve trying to provoke a flame war...you will let us know, won't you?
