What amazes is this golden parachute mess. If they are good they deserve a reward, even though the summs seems highly excessive to me, but why grant it to the loosers who sunk thier own company ? They should have to answer to Joe Six pack for their ill management, not be rewarded.

Yes Jeff, I am aware of that. My biggest worry though was that it was gonna drop another 4-500 points. Over the last year it is way down, you are correct. We have some rough times headed for us

Anyone else write their congressman on the issue?

    "Joe Six-Pack"
Actually (the way I heard it), was coined by a Wall Street trader who was referring to an, any investor who's total was $200,000 or less.
These are considered to be "ineffectual" contributers/investors to the big picture. The ones who's (emergency sell) telephone numbers, will get a "busy" signal during a crash.
Another example of how the financial (and other) "elite" think of you.

Even the "miracle man" is worried....

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin takes a swipe at the United States over its handling of the economic crisis affecting the global economy, Reuters reports.

"Everything that is happening in the economic and financial sphere has started in the United States. This is a real crisis that all of us are facing," Putin told a government meeting.

And what is really sad is that we see an inability to take appropriate decisions," he said. "This is no longer irresponsibility on the part of some individuals, but irresponsibility of the whole system, which as you know had pretensions to (global) leadership."

Even the pope is concerned. On the other hand Putin wasn't moaning when he made big bucks with oil and gaz prices rocketting. I understand his concern, but he should may not be the one who give lessons in this story.

They live in their own politician world and have already bailed themselves out: they probably care more about their own career and being reelected.

Well, it's a given that the longer the politicians work on something, the worse it gets.

The bailout plan is now so complicated and entwined with the pet interests of the Congressional membership, that it has little chance of accomplishing anything worthwhile....but of course, it will still cost $700 billion, or probably more.

Your right DA, 700 Billion just became 850 billion. If it wont pass the house, lets add more pork. The ultimate solution! THROW MORE MONEY AT IT!!!!

Just some of the "tax breaks for the average person"
-Tax breaks for manufacturers of wooden Practice arrows
-Tax breaks for the Wool Trust Fund
-Tax breaks for disaster victims, but when I read the text of the bill, it raises the standard of what is a disaster, and gives even higher tax breaks for a higher death toll:eek:
In my area flooding is a major issue, but by this standerd most of the disasters we have had would no longer constitute a disaster.

It will also raise the FDIC insurance cap to $250,000. I was reading in my local paper that the FDIC can only actually pay out just 1 percent of its current $100,000 cap. To me I don't understand how this helps.

It's hard to even imagine the actual extra ammounts for the average U.S.taxpayer. Just the thought is scary. I hope that at least some of those banks will have to pay back some of it (if they survive )

Many people, us included get 3 or 4 "pre-approved" credit card offers in the mail every week, (which we then shred).
The government went one better. They just gave every man-woman-child, two Gold Mastercards (so far). Trouble is, they're already maxed out, with "Address Correction Requested" on the form letter, so they send the bill to the right place.
There is no difference between this and mortgage brokers selling their trash to the stupid with a cash lump (and another 30 years payments). They take their money, sell their paper (junk bonds) to the greedy, and then Oh-Oh, massive defaults, and then a correction.
    Help me "Nanny".
This happened with land prices about + or - 20 years ago, when bankers went to farmers and told them their land was worth more, so they could get money to buy new equipment or even another farm. Then ... prices dropped. Margin Call !
Pay it back now, and more, or lose it all. "Shearing the Sheep?"
I believe one Iowa farmer had this happen to him, and went into the bank and "bang", the guy who sold him that idea, beat him into the afterlife.
    Think I'll be a Somali Pirate. Pretend you're a fisherman, climb a knotted rope ... Bingo ... 20 Million.

You can say that again my friend. The Senate more than proved last night that most of them still have their heads up their wazoos too.

A quote I like that I thought up (haven't heard it used elsewhere but) "When America sneezes, the world feel the trembles." What I mean by the USA sneezing-is the failure that Wall Street has become-and only meaning anything to do with the respective economies.

Hi E, exactamundo!! I also HOPE that enough voters are pissed off enough to vote those dorks outta office for this. However, I doubt that the "House and Senate" will be cleaned out as peoples memories these days seem to be as long as a bandaid.

sorry to say it is too close to election time C ~

but both parties with the pointing finger at one another want to make this a political stand-off. nearly 85 % of my customer base is 75 years and older and they are shaking their heads, at least 5-6 over the last days say the media is blowing this all out of proportion. we've been through this in the past and we will make it, we did then and will now, (MY terms) - don't Freak out

No freaking out here, we already have our Bunkers built down here ;-))

But seriously, yup, all that finger-pointing isn't doing anyone any good. I hate the media for what they did-which was to start this pre-election crap over a year ago. The media has already picked it's new President :-(

Hi E, you also got my vote and salute ;-))

That is sad though at how early those media types started all of this garbage. Most of it happened to center on the "flying with known as billery-at about this time or earleier-last year. I used to listen to Sean Hannity on the radio too-when I was picnicking outside the library waiting for it to open. The guy was on this same subject daily. Come join us in the "Stop the billery express." I got so tired of hearing about her that I quit listening to his show. Same crap was spewed fourth on Hannity & Combs.

Same here-I aint voting for McCain-my votes for Sarah ;-D

Carl can you physically imagine what Hillabag is thinking these days, wondering why she did not get on any front line ticket and this supposed unknown babe' makes first press news on all the papers and radio. Really cracks me up as the media did not want Pallins rating to sky rocket but that is exactly what they did ......... oooooooooopala
