This book has just come out on the market. Sunday, I met this author by chance, at his book signing held at Barnes & Nobles Bookstore. EVERYTHING mentioned and used here is by his prior permission. His name is William Samelson. A little bit about Dr. Samelson: William Samelson was born in Poland and liver there until the age of 11, when he was interned in various Nazi labour and concentration camps throughout Poland and Germany for the duration of the Second World War. Hi is Visiting Professor of Holocost and Genocide Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Samelson has written extensively on the Holocost and lectured widely on a variety of topics. Amoung his many publications are the momoirs, All Lie in Wait and One Bridge to Life. From our conversation--here is a bit more info about this nice gentleman. He was at various big-name concentration camps such as Dachau--where he was forced to learn a trade to help out the German war effort. At Dachau--many many items were produced such as--Waffen SS cloth insignia, Uniforms, Horseshoes, gas masks, works of art, furniture, leather goods and Panzerfausts. One of this mans jobs--as a teenager, was in the assembly of Panzerfausts. He is also very knowledgable on the Soviet atrocity committed on Polish Officers at Katyn Forest. This is where the RUSSIANS, executed some 13,000 Polish Army Officers. The Germans at some point in the war--had discovered this atrocity--and it was publicised that the Russians were the guilty party. Later on--the Russians came across this site again--promptly dug up the remails of thousands of these murdered Polish Officers, and promptly blamed it on the Germans. I have this mans email address and if there are appropriate questions to ask--he is willig to answer some when he can. Also having Dr. Samelsons permission, I will be seeking to get the OK from Otto about him creating a posting here with a picture--to advertise his excellent book. I have started to read his book, and so far it has been very interesting and I am learning much on what happened to the Jews--that I could not have imagined before. I will have more info on this book by Saturday. Such as who its published by and how much it costs.
Dr. Samelson sounds like a fascinating individual and his memoirs sound like they would make a great read. I look forward to hearing more Carl. [ 23. August 2003, 01:24 PM: Message edited by: Crapgame ]
