Blah, exam was hard and so is this ship too. Somehow I cant find it. It clearly has two triple turrets forward and some secondary twins too.

There is also another triple behind the conning tower. (that counts as a hint)

And I thought I was a bit mean with my 'axe' question in the LOTR quiz!

Oh I don't know. The armament layout pretty much narrows the field to G3 and N3, but obviously you have to realise that it isn't a real picture first... ;)

If you want to see an example of me getting really sneaky go back several posts on this thread for the Akagi one.

I was almost seeing that third turret there (thought didnt see barrels, therefore wasnt sure). I had to check italian WW1-era BB's but they didn't match with having twinturret superfiring tripleturret. And also checked US standard BB's as they had two triple turrets forward but otherwise they weren't even near that picture. I even checked many cruisers, that could have been heavy cruiser with enclosed secondaries.

That was really good, just perfect tricky question.

This is a link to a totally fictional class of British Battleship but it is so nicely done it is worth a look.

Pity you found alt_naval I was thinking of throwing the Japanese Battleship with a Nelson style layout at you. 8)

Actually I've been aware of alt_naval for some time, althought I really prefer other imagesources (which I am familiar with).

Well at least I got the amusment of boiling your brain for a while with that G3 picture.

Okay here's a question for you.

Which ship enjoyed the dubious privilege of being the most significant warship USA lost in WW1

Roel, those ships were lost during WW2.

My first guess to that most significant ship lost during WW1 is USS California / USS San Diego, AC / CA mined and sunk 1918.

And yes, you really boiled my brains with that.

At first glance i thought it was that Nelson/Rodney joined in the middle that was on the battlecruisers site a while back - then after the initial shock I noticed no guns at the back.

    :smok:

Pardon me for assuming that after "WW" there would naturally follow a 2.

Looks very Russian. But couldn't find any ships that actually matches with that but still guessing Chesma.
