I just joined you forum earlier in the week and am having a good time reading and posting. I am 19 years old and am in first year taking war studies. First year is pretty basic, causes and effects of various conflicts. When I get to third year I am defenitly specilizing in WWII, you should see the stuff in our library and microfish. Theres stuff I do not even understand, Yet, but I will. I will not be able to contribute much, mabie a photo or info on something I just studied. Oh I forgot to mension I am a addicted to WWII gaming and play Flames of War and Axis and Allies Miniatures.

I cannot get over how polite and helpful people are here. Other forums crusify posters when their posts are not of the popular opinion or a repeat topic, but not you guys. I like reading the threads but this is the first time I actually registered on a forum. If I ask too many question just tell me to shut up for a while. I will eventually figure out all the forum customs.

Speaking of questions can someone explain the term OKW and OK_ when refering to the German records in WWII. I see poeple refering to OKW in in depth discussions.

PS - When I figure out how to load a avatar I will be sportin a cool Elvis avatar. Thats where the sideburns thing came from.

Glad you've found the forum helpful. Most of the Rogues will bend over backwards to help if there is a question. You can never ask too many questions. It's the only way to learn.

OKW stands for Oberkommando der Wermacht which was the Supreme Command of the Armed Forces in Germany. For a bit more, check this Wiki article to get an idea of its formation. Oberkommando der Wehrmacht - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Good luck with your studies.

Welcome Johnny, good to have you join. I wish you success in your studies.

Look in the upper right at "Settings". If you cannot upload an avatar now, you should be able to in a few days. We have a participation requirement to be met before certain functions are available new members. You're probably at the break point now.

Think of OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht )as the Ministry of Defense or the Department of Defense, but without the civilian control or maybe a larger, more powerful Joint Chiefs of Staff. I know it is a simplistic and somewhat incorrect definition, but that will give the idea around it.

OKH (Oberkommando der Heeres) was the army command
OKL (Oberkommando der Luftwaffe) was the air force command
OKM (Oberkommando der Marine ) wasthe naval command

    Elvis rules!

Johnny, I feel the same way you do. I joined on a whim in March trying to find a detail about something, and didn't think I would be here much. I was dead wrong. This place is amazing, with great people that become your friend quickly, and great moderators and trustees who keep the board civil for the most part and free of clutter.

Here is just a word of advice. If you don't know much about a topic, don't act like you do! You will get "Hiroshimad" here : ), and they can be brutal with pointing out ignorance.

However, that is just for those who act like a hotshot without merit.

Any other time, people here are very kind with clarifying questions and topics.

    Enjoy your time here!
