Hi Kai, nice pick-ups ;-)) I wonder if Erich has any of these? Tonight, I finished a DvD project that was a pure struggle to get through. I FINALLY finished watching the Star Trek Animated series. It was almost pure torture but I out-lasted it.
What about "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly?" It deserves at least an "Honorable Mention" don't you think? I think that the best western has to be "The Wild Bunch."
Hi A/ though I was traised on watching Clints Pasta Westerns along wit Dukes Westerns, I can't stand any of them though I still actually like them some. I do think that The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is the best of all the Pasta Westerns. I like it because it takes place during the Civil War. The Wild Bunch is an excellent Western to say the least and is one o my all-time top favorites. Sam Peckinpah was an excellent action director-shanme he died of a drug overdose. Watched part of something that had Glenn Ford, Peter Falk and Mickey Shaunnessey, in it this morning. Some sort of Crimedy (Crime Comedy) Was pretty good from what I was able to catch ;-))
Have you seen "Extreme Prejudice" with Nick Nolte and Powers Booth? Whoever wrote that one was definitely inspired by the final shoot-out scene of the "Wild Bunch." Both finishes were similar, but without Peckinpah behind the camera, EP pales in comparison when compared to WB, but is a great movie nevertheless.
Hi A/ I don't think ive heard of that movie before? but I do like Nick Nolte and Powers Boothe as well. Ill order it on Netflix as well as another Foreighn movie I just heard about.
Watched two great Westerns this day. Earlier this afternoon was Duke in: The Sons of Katie Elder-which also had: Dean Martin, Earl Holliman and Robert Walker?? Jr. as Dukes Brothers, Paul Fix as the Sheriff, Jeremy Slate as one of Fix's Deputies and George Kennedy as the man in black-bad guy-and great at being such ;-)) This evening was: Support Your Local Sheriff w/ James Garner, Jack Elam, Walter Brennan, Gene Evans (no relation-but was a Sam Fuller War Movie favorite) Bruce Dern, Harry (Henry) Morgan and Dick Peabody.
Have plenty of popcorn and soda pop at the ready. "Extreme Prejudice" is one of those movies that you have to watch real close to keep up with it.
I'm still making my way through the 'Robin Hood' series I've mentioned. There are 4 - 5 discs per season, with ~3 hours worth of watching on each one. I think I am halfway through Season 2 now, and Marion's father has just died so she is joining Robin in the woods. I think Friar Tuck is supposed to join the band pretty soon. Alan has been kicked out of the group since he works for Sir Guy, and the Sheriff of Nottingham still plots to kill King Richard and has recently signed a pact with some nobles agreeing on how to divide the land and to come to arms once the King returns.
Watched the one fo two only, classic movies about the Titanic sinking. The first one and my favorite of the two is: 1953's: Titanic-w/ Clifton Webb, Richard Basehart, Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Wagner. Though this is a Fictional story based aroud the real facts, it will always remain my most favorite of all Titanic films, because of the unbeatable acting from all of its cast members. Then I watched; A Night To Remember-which has Kenneth More & David McCallum in it. This one ONLY just barely comes in 2nd place ONLY because it didn't have Richard Basehart in it. This one of course, is the more factual movie based on the sinking and is the best of all the Titanic movies in that regards for histories sake. I also like the 1943 German production of Titanic-but only as a curiosity. Of course this version was filled with nazi propaganda and treated the Brits like Dog-ship.
Michael Cain as Harry Palmer in a double bill last night. Kicking off with the classic IPCRESS FILE then FUNERAL IN BERLIN.
Started last night and will finish today: Sir Sean Connery as Bond...James Bond, in: Thunderball-which is one fo two Bond....James Bond movies Ijust picked up on DvD this week-the other being The World Is Not Enough w/ Pierce Brosnan as: Bond....James Bond ;-)) Currently im watching an early 70s Sci Fi Classic: The Land That Time Forgot-which stars one of my all time most favorite TV stars--the lare-great: Doug McClure. Before this came on, I cought most of: Son of Kong. onight will be Support Your Local Gunfighter-which has: James Garner, Jack Elam, Harry (Henry) Morgan, and a TV favorite of mine--Chuck Connors. After this, I begin watching the Centennial Mini-series ;-))
Per my kids request: Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and The Wizard of Oz starring the talented and beautiful Judy Garland. Jem
"Kelly´s heroes" last night. Ok film. It´s weird how you always end up thinking "wow how young he was then..."
Been hunting through Youtube and watching various battleship documentaries. Found a good on the Tirpitz and another on the Bismarck. Have also run across one on the Yamato and that will be next.
A James Stewart Western film classic (only because Duke turned down the role) Winchester 73. The film also stars Stephen McNally as Dutch Henry Brown (Stewarts Linn McAdams characters Brother) Dan Duryea as fellow Dutch outlaw gang member known as: Waco Johnny Dean, a young Tony Curtis as a young Cavalry Trooper and Will Geer as Wyatt Earp.
That is an excellent movie. I always liked the character of High-Spade. Never knew that the Duke turned that role down. For the better it seems. Jimmy Stewart was perfect in the role.
Hi R, I never tire of that movie. I too also liked the character of High Spade. Incidentally, he played Gregory Pecks "General Savage's" Commanding Officer in the classic: Twelve O'Clock High. Excellent character actor to say the least ;-)) I also forgot to mention that James Best also played one of those young Cavalry Troopers along with Tony Curtis, and their grizzled old Sergeant was played by Jay C. Flippen. Dan Duryea played a perfect Outlaw-as one of Dutch's gang. I almost forgot that Rock Hudson played the part of that Indian Chief-an early role for him as well. Yup, that was true. This role of Linn McAdams was tailor made for John Wayne but he turned it down for something else he was working on-I forget which movie but I can probably find out ;-)) Also, I don't know if your familiar with a movie I think is called: Wagon Master, or not? but, that was a role tailor made for Duke as well. You will noticed many familiar faces in this film that appeared in many of Dukes films including: Ward Bond, Ben Johnson (also known as) "The Worlds Greatest Cowboy", Harry Carey Jr, and I think also Hank Warden and Jack Pennick?? Forgot to mention that I started the Centennial maxi-series this evening.
I watched about 15 minutes of a terrible piece of crapola last night called "The Attack of the Last Panzer" or something like that. Words can't describe how pathetic the attempt at making a movie was. I've seen a lot of bad movies, and that one has got to be the all time loser....
