Hey Carl, first of my three John Wayne films arrived, Operation Pacific, going to watch it tonight. The other two are Brannigan and Flying Tigers. Thats it for this year unless I see a bargain, try to get your Western recommendations next.
I watched "As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me" Saturday night. That man had some hard times in his travels home, and I'm glad he made it. I can't imagine doing anything such as that.
Hi Richard, sorry I didnt see this sooner to reply but, three good to great films. I have a movie still from Flying Tigers which shows Duke and his Chinese Aircrew/chief standing next to Dukes fighter with the aircrew chief pointing out the Japanese bulletholes in the side of his craft. Ill eventually have Ray post that pic in the war movie stills thread.

Watched a good documentary on CH4 this week about the Polish 303 squadron during the Battle of Britain, they really wanted to kill the Germans which made them the all time top killers! Ended on a sad note... we the British won the war and they the Polish lost the war. I also fill ashamed they were not part of the 1946 victory parade on the grounds not to offend Stalin. Nuts to Stalin! They had every damn right to be there.
Porky's and Porky's 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm taking a short break from WW2 documentaries, don't want to overdo it.
AMC just started an all John Wayne Marathon for the holiday weekend. Tonight they started the ball rolling with one of my alltime most favorite Westerns-that is: John Wayne as Hondo Lane in: Hondo. The movie also stars Paul Fix as the Cavalry Major, Ward Bond as an Army Scout, Michael Pate as the Apache Indian Chief: Vittorio, James Arness as another Army Scout, Geraldine Page as Mrs Lowe and Lee Aker as the little boy. Next on-which im also watching for about the 120th time, is: Rio Bravo w/ Duke, Dean Martin, Ward Bond, Angie Dickenson, Walter Brennan, Gonzales Gonzales, Ricky Nelson, Claude Akins and James Mitchum-Robert Mitchums younger brother. What a cast! The only major player of the bunch still living is Angie Dickenson.
It was "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming" for me last night. I haven't seen it since the 70s when I was still in high school and it was still as good as I remembered it to be. I got it on Netflix, and in the special features there is a piece by the director talking about the production. Word got out about the movie, and being it was released in 1965 right in the middle of the cold war, there was a lot of interest in it. There was a special viewing arranged for the Soviet Ambassador and his entourage Later the director was invited to Moscow for several sneak previews for the Soviet inner circle and the Russian movie industry types later. Apparently the movie was a monster hit over there as well back then, and it's still worth a look now.
Recently with my morning paper ive been getting a DVD disc set (one each day for a total of 14) called WW2 in colour, ive only just started watching them; arguably the best WW2 documentary series ive ever seen.
