I watched "The Searchers" the other night. I think that John Wayne did a better job in this movie than he did in "True Grit". He got robbed at Oscar night.

Hi Ray, A, Thanks for the link Ray, ill try it before I leave here tonight and if it doesnt worK? ill try it at the library tomorrow ;-)) A/ I agree with you, Duke was robbed of a rightful Oscar too many times. The Searchers being one of them, Sands of Iwo Jima was another, and I forget which others he SHOULD have been nominated for-but the 1949 Oscar had many great movies he was up against including Gregory Peck in: Twelve O'Clock High. I dont think that Broderick Crawford whould have won that year-too many other greats out there that had better more plumb roles. I think Duke was also up against Orson Wells and I THINK Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp in: My Darling Clementine.???? Oh and its generally believed that Duke did not win before True grit, because of his Political beliefs. This is talked about in a few chapters in a good book that Ray gave me about Duke-called: Duke, were glad we knew you. Forgot to mention: I saw Genghis Kahn VERY latenight on TCM, which Had Omar Sharif as Timogen (SP?) aka Genghis Kahn, Stephen Boyd as the Mongrel who captured Sharif when he was a child but who escapes and learns the Are of War and does a great job of waging warfare. This movie had many greats in it including Eli Wallach, Telly Savalas, Woody Strode and James Mason.
