Going to start the Long March today, I have received my copy of "The World At War", 24(?) episodes. You know I ate that shit up first time I saw it on the telly.
Got the complete set of "The Great War", the 1960s BBC series. Still ground-breaking stuff- BBC Two - The Great War - Episode guide
Nothing compared to when Aragorn lead the Men of the West to the gates of Mordor. I was just a wee lad then or I'd have gone with them.
I'm doing my best to NOT watch what's on now. Anyone remember a show called "Mystery Science Theater 3000 ? ( About Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Mystery Science Theater 3000 ) Struggling through an episode of what appears to be a regurgitated " Lost " type show called "La Brea". Joel would have thrown himself out the airlock by now.
We have a "three little heads in the corner" cut out that we put on the boob tube before watching Hammer flicks.
I think Grumman and North American had a similar idea... Texan: Similar body design as the Duck here...Remember the story of the travelling aircraft designer? Went all over the world spruiking his design...Said to be responsible for (though not necessarily credited with) The Texan and Japanese Zero and a bunch of other aircraft all very similar to each other. I know form fits function but the design similarities are hard to ignore. Underside of the Zero: And the Texan: Australia Wirraway:
Watched the most boring horror movie on the weekend..."Speak no Evil" (2022) from Denmark. VERY subtle story - Looking at the Europeans habit of being polite and not wanting to rock the boat in social situations...a couple of serial killers push another couple and press their buttons to see just how much they will take before speaking up. Hollywood would hate the story as it ends with the couple being stripped naked and stoned to death by the serial killer couple...then they take their daughter. Story ends with the serial killers moving on to another new couple with the boy - from a previous couple, and the new daughter in tow. Speak no evil refers to the boy, who had his tongue cut out with scissors to stop him talking... "On a vacation in Toscana, a Danish family instantly becomes friends with a Dutch family. Months later, the Danish couple receives an unexpected invitation. It doesn't take long before the joy of reunion is replaced with misunderstandings." I think Britain has already made a version of it - Everyone screamed "change the ending!" So the British version ends differently.
Saw a Franco-Spanish one called The Beasts, about a French couple who move to Galicia and eventually fall foul of their neighbours because they're the only ones who oppose a windfarm development and the rest are desperate for the money. Ends with the French guy being murdered and his widow not finding his body for over a year, and not being able to have the culprits (on the farm next door) charged through lack of evidence for months afterwards. It's based on a true story of a Dutch couple in similar circumstances. On a lighter note, watched Ophelia last night again, the tale of Hamlet retold from Ophelia's viewpoint with a reimagined ending where she survives in a nunnery with her daughter by Hamlet. Damned good movie.
Ya want Strange ? Here's strange: At the end of the final credits, there is a notice in English, claiming that "No trolls were harmed during the making of this movie".
