I got the expensive edition to Valkyrie as well and I enjoyed the Doc as well as the Making Of parts. The Doc was one that was done by the learning channel or either the Discovery Channel-a few yrs ago as it was aired back about the time that buzz started about this movie. Even tough im no tom cruise fan-I thought he did a pretty-good job-in this movie.
Bought myself a couple more classic WW2 films and saw them over the weekend. The Battle of the River Plate & Sink the Bismark
well the longest day comes on in 10 minuets so ill be sitting at the couch with some chips n dip some iced tea and watching Red stuck in the bell tower for the umpteenth time.
I've never seen the Battle of the River Plate? I don't think? Of is that just a different name for: Persuit of the Graf Spee? If so, then I have seen it-but only once and about 29 years ago. I wish these would be released on DvD here in the States. Sink the Bismarck was-and I got the DvD as soon as it appeared on the shelves. I've always been a bit of a Kenneth More-fan. Liked him in: A Night To Remember as Herr Lightholler.
Just finished watching The Longest Day. It was especially good this time because I just re-read the book a few weeks ago. Good stuff.
Was glad to see The Longest Day again, my favorite cast member in the movie had to have been Red Buttons, always made me laugh and smile. I caught the end half too of Battle of the Buldge, I didn't like it much where was the snow heh..
I watched "The Caine Muntiney" last night. Not bad, but even though Humphrey Bogart did a good job as Captain Qweeg, his strong points were never war movies, save for "Casablanca."
Thanks Mate. I couldn't say if this is the movie I was thinking about that I saw so long ago or not? Just been too long since I watched it. Grr, they NEED to release UK classics on region 0 or 1-so I can get a chance to watch these classics.
Don't you guys get all region DVD players? I bought a new one last year and found out it will play all the world regions, cheap and cheerful.
Watched part of Midway with Henry Fonda (among others). It wasn't particularly good as a movie, and I didn't care for the Japanese speaking English. I much preferred the method of The Longest Day where German characters spoke German, with subtitles. some of the Midway footage was interesting, though.
Hi Mate-im not sure what all kinds of players we have available here but mine is an expensive supposedly (then) top of the line Sony. I bought mine back in early 2003-so not sure on and changes in what players will play-but I do have to give mine a thumbs up on performance. It's been used and abused over the years and still plays like it was new ;-D I don't remember what I paid for it exactly but-I think I payed about $350 for it at the time.
Heh heh-there have been days that that's all I did was sit around and watch the DvDs-all-day long. Partly because of bad weather and nowhere to go-and partly out of frustration at lack of good programming on the cable tv system we had-116 channels and most of the time-nothing was on worth watching. I mean, you can only just stand so many repeats of I Love Lucy, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligans Island, The A-Team, Star Trek TNG, The Andy Griffith Show, Night Court, M*A*S*H, the Cosby SHow, All In the Family, yadda yadda yadda. PS, I absolutely HATE-Scrubs.
You should be on the unlimited Netflix program, something like $45.00 a month. Then cancel the premium channels. The changes will just about cancel out.
