That is a great scene and a great movie. Just say Peachy's gone South.....The Man Who Would Be King The gurka signing off and charging the monks. The Man Who Would Be King He found a home in the Army....Battleground I'm with ya Hollie.....Battleground "Tiger to Panther get onto the road and blast that piece of junk off the bridge"....Yes Kidz from Battle of the Bulge.
Almost forgot about this movie. A couple scenes I like: When that German E-boat pulls up and boards their boat. The scene where Peck has just shot the woman spy and then goes off on the demolitions expert and threatens to shoot him. Patton: The scene when Bradley is going off on George. "George, you're on of the best generals we have, but you just don't know when to shut up." The first battle scene; "In about 10 seconds, they're going to get a good taste of this artillery."
STALINGRAD What a insult this line was at the start just before the medal parade........... Good Italian wine, tastes like piss. Lol Another one from Das Boot that cracked me up was after there near destruction the U-Boat comes back up and the Kapitan shouting at the RN but it's the scene when No.1 pops up beside him. I just don't know why I find it funny unless it's to do with the timing but it makes me laugh.
Just before that - the preliminary 25-pounder barrage scene. I once met a man who commanded a 25-pr battery and he loved that one - he reckoned that the film-makers got it just about right ; especially the ringing noise of the empty cases being ejected. I also like the scene of the paratroopers jumping from the C-47s.....
For me it the start of the film The Iron cross when they take out the Russian mortar team out & Corporal Steiner say " good kill "
Hi Martin, I too always thought that 25Pdr scene was excellent! Might we ask Paul about that one? ;-D Kelly's Heroes: I love the opening scenes where Kelly driving the jeep with the kiddnapped German Oberst, going through the German village during a rainstorm and artillery barrage.
the shooting scene of "full metal jacket" in the ruins of Hue. I wouldn't like to be a soldier in that kind of city. "letters from iwo jima": the grenade suicide and the death of kuribayashi. "saving private ryan" first scene.
Speaking of Braveheart....this is hilarious!! I still laugh at it, after seeing it a 1000 times!! The crazy Irishman!! YouTube - Braveheart- Funny Irishman scenes
Thank you gentlemen... thank you......This is a story you'll tell your grandchildren and mightily bored they'll be. Later.....I've selected you to lead us, not only because of your extraordinary fighting ability, but also because, in the unlikely event the Germans ever get you, they will assume from your attire that they've captured a wreched peasant and immediately send you on your way. ....A Bridge Too Far, An enjoyable scene by Ed Fox Connery.....I thought everyone knew that God was a Scotsman.
"HAve you ever heard such a racket in all your life?" "It takes an Irishman to play the pipes!" (Two Paratroopers at Pegasus Bridge, from The Longest Day)
Hornet squadron flying into Chateau St Pierre an estate left in haste by a jewish banker. Spits fly headlong into the camera lens.....some Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1923....a little squash.....something about flying under a bridge and an Me-109 accompanied by a haunting oboe dropping a piss pot on the field.....A Piece of Cake or Morsel gateau because it sounds better in French
This one brought a smile to my face. YouTube - A BRIDGE TOO FAR - 1977 clip 3 So did this. YouTube - Bridge too far- Ludwig loses the bridge
I forgot about this one untill I re-watched it last night. In Go for Broke when the 442nd recieves fire for the first time, one of the Japanese-American soldiers asks another soldier "what happens if some one gets hit". Just then a man behind them gets hit and lets out a yelp. Reply "sometimes they scream" They look forward and watch as another soldier is hit and falls forward, after which you hear the second soldier reply "sometime they don't"
Some of my favorite scenes in war pictures are: The opening combat in Gettysburg where General Buford's calvary troops hold off the Rebel attack. Colonel Chamberlin's defense of Little Round Top in Gettysburg Pickett's Charge in Gettysburg The scene in Gods and Generals where men of an Irish regiment from New York (if I'm not mistaken) charge against a position held by an Irish Regimant from the South giving the ultimate meaning brother against brother. The numerous times in Flags of Our Fathers where the survivors say the ones who died are the heroes. The scene in Flags of Our Fathers where Ira Hayes meets Mike Strank's mom. The discovery of the concentration camp in Band of Brothers. The capture of the American in Letters From Iwo Jima The end sequence in Saving Private Ryan from Miller's death onward. The death of Capt. Bennion of the battleship West Virginia and Doris Miller's rampage in Pearl Harbor. These are some of the greatest/most touching scenes in the war movies I have seen.
