It was actually a picture of the Prototype 91 ( second phase modification of the Prototype No.1 ), taken at the Osaka Army Arsenal.

The tank next it looks like an M-48 / M-60 family member.
So is it an American vehicle?
Possibly an attempt to mount a large gun, in a more shell-resistant turret?
(at least to trial the theory)

I think you are on the right tracks Ricky, if I can remember correctly the original write-up I had with this mentioned Detroit!

More shell-resistant? This thing has 'shot trap' written all over it!

I haven't got a clue on the origins of this tank but I can't wait to hear what this is, who made it and for what purpose on this earth! :D

There appears to be no vision blocks, no crew access...
You'd certainly struggle to get a driver in that hull.
    Is it remote-controlled?

Whoops, I think I meant the LVT(A)-1. I think the A-1 used the M3 turret with the 37mm gun and the A-4 used the GMC 8 open turret with the short 75mm howitzer. ANy experts out there, I'm too lazy to look.
