For my birthday and first hand from a 84 old vet from the former colonial troops. This French colonial helmet with Marine insignia was part of the Officer gear in North Africa in 1942-1945. It is absolutely in perfect condition wih the exception of the marking that suffered from sweat. It is the darker died version as opposed to the white one.

    Hi Skipper,

I always wanted one and I shall probably buy a later type as well in the future.

    Thanks, Jerry

Well, yesterday I made an exceptionnal find. I was in the Vendöme area and went to a flea market there. I arrived quite late n the day and didn't expect to find much, but immediately stopped when I saw a dusty box. Upon closer analysis I saw a tranport regiment symbol with regiment number and much more,as the surname of the man who once owned it. Then I saw the details and bingo when I read the places and saw the Lorraine cross,I immediately realised this was one of General Leclerc's Free French 1st Armored Divison soldier's.
The mention Royan (Royan Pocket ) and Inssbruck leave no doubt about the fact that this is a genuine Rhin and Danube Army relic.
    So this box made
it all the way from the Provence Landing via Angoulême, Selles sur Cher, Royan and later Austria via Baden and Bavaria.

I will try to find info about this "Marechal des Logis D. rideau" .

MDL = Maréchal des Logis = Sgt

I'm so happy I came home with this one! Found at our local flea market , first hand from a Vet who came back with those in 1945. If I am correct they are Royal Navy binoculars (Bino prism 1944)

I believe I have identified my binoculars now and they appear to be genuine Ross made binos (type Bino prism N°5) . The 1944 dat eand the war department arrow make this model even nicer. Thanks to Andy for having helped me with the identification.

Perfect Andy, they are working great. Note the small arrow from the WD visible on the lower left edge of picture number one.
