A named Hawley fibre liner. These liners were the very first model, made only for a year, before the high pressure molded plastic liners were fielded. This one is a "3rd type", where the chinstrap can be removed. The liner is named but I haven't found anything in NARA's army enlistment records though!

The plyers look genuine, it's always hard to find out if they were U.S. ones or not as many other armies used exactly the same ones. Whatever they are they look good enough in the lether case

The Seriel Number matches is right for an Officer 0-1796195 if it is US. But, it could also be a blood type O- (negative) and a 7 digit service number in whihc xase the "CMP" at the bottom could mean Canadian Mounted Police....
    I'll do some digging.

Thanks Kai, the box was given to me by a friend . It came from his attic. Only the middle separation was missing because it had been used as a toolbox after the war .The items come from many years of gathering here and there , epsecially Alsace where you sometimes find objets in old home pharmacies and flea markets.

There are bandages, mostly dated 43 and 44 , including one for the SS. There are also burn wounds cream jars, bicorbonate, safety pins, scisors and even anti flea powder + much more. Everything is intact and of course WW2

Excellent Verbandkasten, Skipper. My one ( bought in an English junk shop years ago for £10 ) is empty and I use it for shoe-cleaning utensils.....

Jug's right, it is an Officers serial #. NARA has the enlisted numbers but they are given a 'new' number once commissioned. Haven't be able to figure out how to find a list of Officers Ser. #'s. I found five 'hits' for "A" J White. The one from Mississippi sounds promising. Looking close it appears it 'could' be an A instead of an O. Just a guess. The CMP, no idea ?

I did the same search last night, I came to a similar conclusion, that the serial number changed once an enlisted man got a comission!
I now have three serial numbers I want to research, I really have to file the paperwork with NARA one of these days!

I think this is the guy we're looking for: NARA - AAD - Display Full Records - Electronic Army Serial Number Merged File, ca. 1938 - 1946 (Enlistment Records)

He's from Massachusettes and enlisted in January 1941. Under "Term of Enlistment" is "0" which represents "undefined Term". This would be a common designation for someone who enlisted/ enrolled into an ROTC program.

    Here's another guy: http://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-...8&rlst=174723,1573304,1840123,5358911,5732928

He enlisted in 1942 with 4 years of College out of Ohio. Seems like a good candidate for OCS.

Even if it's only a small detail, I'm really happy I found these matching suspenders that were made to be used with the mountain trousers.

Go back and look at my post, I think I found a better match and the time line also fits.

Yep, the higher education would make him a more plausible candidate for a comission! I think I will ask for both men's records at NARA! I will also have to look up a Captain of the 687th FA and a Major of the 315th FA!

Thanks a lot for the help!!!!

I bought this M-42 shell this morning I love it, not only because of the original cammo on it but because of the battle damage scar. I wonder how an explosion could have done this. It is otherwise perfect.

From the looks of the dent I am going to guess that something (shrapnel) hit it. I think it would be safe to assume that the Landser's ears were ringing for few days. Good looking lid!!!

Thanks Brad I knew you'd like that one too. It was 100% rusted only a few hours ago. I scraped it off mmm by mm with a shoemakers knife, but left some of the rust for fear to tear off the paint if I insisted too much . I don't know if I can restaure the decal. I guess i'd better leave it this way.

A very nice lid Skipper! I would leave it this way, half a restauration is always something very weird, it just doesn't feel right.
