Marine Corps Ribbon bars from the 90's.....It's strange, for me, when I see those at swap meets and antique stores. The tool looks like a soldering iron.

off the Roma thread which is still not done by the way ............. foto of RK winner Heinrich Schmetz last Kommandeur of III./KG 40 in August through September 1944 before it's disolvement due to terrible losses in men and materials. Quite the accomplished pilot he flew a Do 217K-2 with Fritz-X on the September 43 mission to sink the Roma and in fact several sources claim he sunk the Battleship which to me has not a shred of proof according to "our" thread on the Romas sinking.............

Whether he did or not is not important, he was a great airman and it certainly took guts to fly bombers without air superiority

Skip sadly so little info on the Roma operation by any side so even with Klaus's book arrives soon who can really prove that he even sent a Fritz into the Roma ? now to find a nice signed pic of kommanduer Bernhard Jope during this time period of Sept. 43.

    thanks for the like friend..........

Maybe not a Sept 43 one, as I suppose he was far away from the Heimat and too busy to answer letters from children who were not aware were he was anyhow. I can imagine his wife forwarding mail to his Feldpost number, if there was any ... but I doubt such a pic will ever show.

Skip most likely a post war copy signed which would do nicely, though Kai has picked up some dandy ww2 pics with the original sigs am sure a Jope one would could be included in his ever growing inventory soon ..............

I did see a colorized one of B. Jope somewhere on the net which was curious to me.

a couple more KM pices shortly to arrive the first was the former CO of the 1.Schnellboot-Flottille and the second Skip should enjoy the former and last CO of Harbor Cherbourg, in fact the chap in June tried to escape with a small Kampfgruppe but ws wounded in the process, Hermann Witt also saw much action in WW 1 receiving his EK 1 and Ek 2 in the process. DkG on June 27, 1994 for leading the Kampfgruppe on the breakout.............

Erich , both pics are wonderful , not the Witt one from Cherbourg, but also the Birbacher one who was surrounded in the La Rochelle-Royan-St nazaire Festung and watched the Gironde access to prevent the allies from using Bordeaux until the final surrender on May 9th .

Kai ,excellent additions too , your collection must be huge by now
